He was too busy already going around and touching the earth, shrubs, tiny buckets and pretty much everything else he could reach - which technically wasn't much - to even listen to the riddle. To be honest, he wasn't too worried about what they had to do during the lesson. But HEY, he did hear people wondering what would happen if they saw a GIGANT BUG. Whoa, that would be AMAZING!!! Matt hoped with all his might that it would happen.
In fact, he wanted to go look for them. Nothing better to do, no time to waste. So BUG HUNTING IT WAS!! "Bzzz bzzzz bzzzz bzzzz..." Was he making the right noises? What kinda bug would that b- A BEE. Yes. That sounded like a bee. HOWEVER that wasn't exactly the type of insect he had in mind. He wanted to see creepy crawlies, not bees. But if the creepy crawlies also flied, that would be pretty COOL. Matt was already making plans to tame and ride them.
"BZZZ BZZZZ BZZZZ BZZZzzzzzZzzzZZZZ MMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ" He would have to test new sounds soon because surely that wasn't the only noise insects made. But he couldn't think of any other types of insect sounds. If only he had been more observant while out in gardens.
...ahhh...what was Matt.....doing????
Paul snapped his fingers in the boy's direction.
"AY--MATT--FOCUS, M'BOY!" He called out, gesturing at the rest of the class who were now watering his precious rosebush.
SPOILER!!: Rooney ;_;

So he passed it across to his best friend with a sad sort of smile and went back to feeling sorry for himself.
Points... Lost... He'd never lost points before.
But he was just going to keep quiet from here on out. He couldn't provide an answer to anything without fear of his lip wobbling and having to also leave the class so that he didn't CRY in front of anyone here. Maybe Liv later. If she promised to pet his hair and slick it back so he looked like a prince. Anything that wasn't the stupid Prefect that had lost points for being a bully. His mother hadn't raised a bully. She was going to be so disappointed and he KNEW his sister would write home to tell her all about it. And Brinlee would be sO descriptive of it also.
"I can't explain myself I'm afraid Sir. Because I'm not myself, you see." Another quote, another fail. Head bowed, Rooney followed limply across the room towards where they were supposed to gather before stARING at his crazy Professor. Crazy because wHO SPIKED THEIR STUDENTS?! Who spiked tea?! It was nectar of the heavens and didn't deserve such treatment. But Rooney couldn't even put together an understanding of it all because, they really were all the sizes of...well, not the sizes of humans.
"Liv, I feel like Thumbelina." ANOTHER story. Another great story. But that was all he was able to say on this. He listened to the riddle, nodded at other people's answers and stuffed his hands in his pocket whilst he waited this out a little bit.
Riddles were a thing for Ravenclaws and Roo wanted to see if any of these would have been past passwords.
He shot a glance at Rooney and sighed. He felt guilty for taking points away from a PREFECT but...he would have taken points away from anyone else for such cruelty in words.
But he heard one word...Thumbelina. WHAT WAS THAT? It piqued the professor's curiosity, and he would write home soon enough to ask Milton if HE knew because Milton knew pretty much everything.
He smiled in Rooney's direction. Don't feel baaaaaaad, child.

She should have worn her blue dress at this point.....Riddles now too? He really was getting into this wasn't he? "Curiouser and curiouser." She looked at the professor with still a bit of disapproval for spiking her beverage, but also amusement. She'd play now and grumble at him later. "Liquid falling from the sky, hits the ground and fixes dry. Once the rain is in the ground, flowers bloom all around...." A fancier way to say water, writing lyrics and being subjected to Ullr's nonsense improved her ability in that regard.
"Oh m'dear...that is lovely!" he clapped a little at her performance.
"Beautiful! You should be a poet!" he smiled and nodded.

All she would need would be some kind of reins and then she would be the QUEEN OF SNAILS!
And if any bugs DID COME ATTACK like people had said, then SHE would CHARGE THEM ON SNAIL BACK, WAND DRAWN, EXPRESSION FIERCE. RAWWWWWR!!!
....okay so that would also involve casting a spell on her sneed (snail steed) to speed it up, but STILL! HOW COOL WOULD THIS BE?
IT WAS TOO MUCH.
Daxton and Blaise were forgotten, Charlotte was too busy Gryffindoring and losing her ever-loving mind in the world of POSSIBILITY and IMAGINATION.
Was Charlotte Kettleburn okay? She, too, seemed out of it. Paul cleared his throat at her.
"Miss Kettleburn!" he said.
"Are you THERE?" if he was closer he would have waved his hand in front of her face.

It only made sense.
Though.....what if the answer was something else?
Leaning on the table in front of him, Kyroh closed his eyes and began to doze off.
His answer to the riddle? Sleep.
The...dozing boy got a....LIGHT squirt of water in his face.
That may or may not have come from Paul's wand.
Ahem.

Sure that was the obvious solution and the professor had told them to not think too hard, but it could be something else too. From the ground and the sky. "Oxygen and nitrogen," Sky said quietly, upon raising her hand. Yes that was two things, but they fell under one category: gas.
...well she wasn't wrong! Paul laughed a little.
"You're right--oxygen AND nitrogen--" that was so funny!
"But in this instance I meant....WATER." They had all gotten it correct! He was so proud. Granted, it wasn't a hard riddle at all.
JUST ENOUGH TO GET THEIR JUICES FLOWING.
He let a stream of water flow from the end of his wand and onto the soil.
"MAKE SURE YOU ALL GET EVERYWHERE--" Well, everywhere that they could. But once he was satisfied the soil was mushy under their feet, he smiled.
"ONTO The next riddle! This one isn't as easy...so..." Ahem.
"Good job kids. You figured it out!
The next clue is harder, no doubt!
So listen closely, peel those ears!
Or you’ll be stuck this small for years.
Sprinkle this next thing all over the dirt.
You’d think this substance would make the soil desert.
No no, don’t worry! Some things it does dry,
But for roses, sprinkling this will help them get by."
He was kidding about the staying small forever thing, though, students.
OOC: I made brief reference to this next riddle in one of my previous posts BUT I understand if literally no one gets it xD I'll post Paul if the students are having trouble. <3
Also, I see some of you not referencing the fact that they are SMALL and shrunk to the size of bugs...on the rosebush. *just wanted to clear that up for future RP reasons*
