Jessica could already tell that she was going to love this professor. The way he came in and just gave his class had her leaving amused and when the question arose about the part of rose and what it was for, she just smiled. Even though a few of her classmates already said it, she just wanted to give the best answer she could give.
"Well we have the petals of the rose which can be eaten. They are usually modified to have certain colours which is a way to attract birds and bees, so that there can be pollination.
We have the rose hips that have a outer layer that contain the seeds of the rose. Rose hips can be eaten, I believe. The thorns are on the rose stem, and the are made so that they can easily overgrow other plants and things.
And then you have the stigma. They are in the bloom. The style of the rose flower is attached to stigma so they create a path for pollen to travel. The pollen travel to the ovaries which are located in the rose hips. And in those there are the ovules and they do the egg production for the rose pollination."
She took a breath after all she said, slumping down embarrassed in her seat once she realised how much she was speaking. |
