Some potions ingredients were plants or animal parts that no one in their right mind would want to eat if they were not part of a potion. Who would want to eat fur or feathers? Potions was a strange but fascinating and useful subject. Quote:

As the lesson started, the tiny second year got his notes and quill ready. Sitting straighter, and craning his neck to see what was up front, Jace pondered on the question and eyed each of the ingredients as soon as it was revealed. His eyes landed automatically on the mottled shards…which looked a lot like tortoise shell, and the caterpillars. Immediately, his hand was up in the air. “Are we going to make an Ageing Potion today, professor? I see you’ve got pieces of tortoise shell and caterpillars.” He said as he retracted his arm back and got his Potion’s book, “The others ingredients could be…red wine, prune juice…hairy fungus, and bat tongue?” What in the name of Merlin are they going to do with a bat's tongue? Chop it up?
Gross. The students who had successfully guessed AGING POTION got a very big smile and two thumbs up from Art. "Well done! YES it is an Aging Potion that you will all be brewing today." Or... attempting to brew.

That should be a thing it would be so cool.
Art chuckled at that answer. “Not today, no,” he said, but that WOULD have been a cool potion. Something… surely he could… he jotted it down on a spare piece of parchment, just in case his brain wanted to explore that one. SPOILER!!: Azura Quote:

No, he shouldn’t laugh. He smiled warmly at the second year, “No, no Polyjuice or Pokyjuice p-potion today Miss Kennedy.” SPOILER!!: Echo Quote:

Echo thought she might as well shout out an option "polyjuice potion sir?" she asked questioningly. while kind of shrinking in her chair, shes a 5th year and she didnt really study over summer break, hopefully she passes her owls this year.
“Not today, unfortunately, but good guess.” A guess was always appreciated! SPOILER!!: Colt Quote:

And Art chuckled at this one as well. A fluffy creature. “N-not a fluffy creature, no. But good guess, with the hairy fungus and-and the caterpillars.” SPOILER!!: Mel Quote:

Something to make their hair stand on end and turn pink? Art grinned, “Not today Mr Chev, but uhh, but that sounds like a FUN potion.” SPOILER!!: Vivian Quote:

She looked at the ingredients that were now visible in front of them. She... had no idea. That's why she was here anyway - to learn. But it wouldn't hurt to make a wild guess though. Vivi's hand shot up in the air. "Professor, I would personally like a potion that would make awesome stuff happen to MARSHMALLOWS. You know, like make them bounce or change colour or do cartwheels!" She wiggled on her seat as she spoke. "But, if we are to base on the ingredients presented in front, then I'd say... we're growing beards." Which was ALSO a cool idea too.
Vivian sort of wished the Professor didn't just keep dangling it in front of them. TELL USSSSS. The eleven year old was too bloody excited!
Art chuckled at the young lady’s suggestion. “That would be very uhh, very fun to watch indeed,” he said. She seemed very animated about it. Perhaps he could suggest it to Professor Primeaux. But then she suggested another one.. growing beards! “Not.. not quite,” he said. Some of them might grow beards from the effect of the potion, but she probably wouldn’t.
SPOILER!!: And other <3 SPOILER!!: Miranda Quote:

Miranda couldn't wait to see all of the ingredients they were to be using today. Well, that and she was dead nervous as to whether any of the older students would want to work with her for this lesson. She looked around eyes huge with anxiety by the time her bit of ingredients finally made it to her table.
Ahhh, so it WAS allergies. Art nodded, “See me after class if you-you want, I can give you a small amount of anti-allergy p-potion. Or th-the healer should be able to p-pr-provide you with one too.” SPOILER!!: Esme Quote:

And even if he WASN'T she would have been worried about him.
Art nodded, “Quite okay, Miss Darcy. Thank you for your concern though.” It was nice knowing people had an eye open. If he weren’t under the influence of the potion, he would have taken her seriously and gone to get assessed. But it was all in the name of a simple potion. SPOILER!!: Noelle Quote:

Noelle had been down here already but realized she had forgotten her potions book and had high tailed it back to get her book. Now she was out of breath as she entered the potions classroom, just as the professor started speaking.
Most of the seats were taken, but Noelle sat down beside Azura. She gave the girl a wave and a smile. Now to pay attention to the professor.
The ingredients had been hidden in a way but now they were shown. And Rooney was asked to hand out the ingredients. Noelle wanted to see what they were. She wasn't very tall so it was hard to see over the other students.
And there was someone… late. Great Scott, Art had never had anyone late before. He would let it slide this time, of course. “Miss Summers, g-glad you could join us,” he said with a smile as she got herself ready. He wasn’t quick to anger or jump to conclusions. Her tardiness could have been the result of a brainwave in academic research! He would never be the person to hold back from exploring that. SPOILER!!: Blaise Quote:

Because now that his head was up, he did notice something was a bit off with the man and would rather not suffer the same fate thanks.
Unless...you know....it wasn't a potion the man took but father time catching up with the old man.
Art laughed, and found himself having a small coughing fit again. He took a deep, but shaky breath, and let out a forceful cough to dislodge whatever it was that had been making him cough. “N-no, Mr Bellaire, I’m-I’m not going to have you drinking what I took.” But good perception, that young man had. Very good indeed. SPOILER!!: Gendry Quote:

It seemed like such a huge choice. This lab coat would follow him all his years at Hogwarts. It was not a choice to be taken lightly. He stood there immobile...not quite sure what to do.
He looked back to the professor, wondering what his choice should be. He didn't want to make a poor choice.
Art noticed the young man’s hesitation. “Just one that fits,” he said, guessing to what it was the young man was wondering. “We can alter them.” SPOILER!!: Liv Quote:

I don't have great potions skills." First step in fixing a problem was admitting that there was one. Mhm. AND SHE WANTED TO LEARN....in theory. So her mum didn't send her to a reform school.
Art was still smiling at the lively young lady when she announced that she would need help. “We can def-definitely partner you up with someone,” he said.
With a wave of his wand, almost dropping it in the process, the chalk appeared on the board. “Yes! An Aging potion. As s-some of you mi-mi-might have g-guessed, I too-o-ook an aging potion this morning b-be-before class. I’m-m-m 60, but I f-f-feel ab-about 100!” And that was no exaggeration. “No-nobody is required to in-ingest the potion, like I have, I on-only want you to brew it yo-yourselves. As I said, you ca-can work with a partner if you w-wish but you don’t have to.” He knew that some of the students preferred to work alone, but there were also some who liked group or partnered work. "Err if... if someone would like to work with Miss Phillips, though?" he asked. Any volunteers? “You have 90 minutes! I’m-I’m going to j-just try and brew along with you but I’m a-a bit slow today,” he said with a chuckle, “so I m-might not finish on time…” and his potion would probably be useless if that were the case. But he was merely here, as an aged Arthur, to show the effects of the potion. Yes, it caused one to age. “N-now, there’s little b-bowls and m-measuring cups here for you to-to come and get wh-what you need, if you don’t have these ingredients. The am-amounts are on the board. It’s always help-helpful to take a little bit m-more, just in case. But don’t throw away any leftovers!” No, waste was not good. Quote:

Instructions- Prepare all ingredients as listed in the ingredients list, weighing and measuring each carefully.
- Slowly heat the red wine and prune juice and begin stirring clockwise until you can just see bubbles starting to form. (The mixture will be dark purple/brown)
- Immediately add the Hairy Fungus and continue to stir clockwise for ten minutes. (The mixture will slowly fade to a lighter purple/brown)
- Continuing to stir clockwise, add the tortoise shell. (The mixture will be a creamy color)
- After eight minutes, remove the cauldron from the heat and add the caterpillar and bat tongue, making sure to continue to stir the solution in a clockwise motion for five minutes, until it changes to a creamy green colour.
- As the potion cools, it will turn emerald green. Once it is completely cooled (about fifteen to twenty minutes), you may cease dispense the potion into appropriate vials for storage.
Characteristics: Emerald Green Level: Advanced Information: The effects are dosage based; the more ingested, the older one will age First things first! Art pulled out his cauldron and cleaned it with the trusty cleaning charm. He had his tools all out, and cleaned them too. He hoped he didn’t need to explain this to the older students, but the first year students might need it. “Scourgify,” he announced. “A scouring charm, p-point your wand at the-the cauldron and mo-move your wand in an ‘S’ shape, wh-whilst saying SKUR-ji-fy. Ol-older students, if you could ke-keep an eye out for anyone struggling.” That would be much appreciated. This ancient man wasn’t about to get off his chair. “Now there is a lot of stirring in this potion, so we will p-prepare our ingredients FIRST.” He paused to allow the students enough time to get their ingredients, measure them out, and clean their tools. “Mashing the hairy fungus can be done with your mortar and p-pe-pestle, we j-just mash it until it’s a somewhat uniform consistency. The t-tortoise shell is a bit harder at first, being s-solid, but we put some elbow grease into it an-and we get it done. The caterpillar is sliced, nice and thin, but not t-too thin, enough to keep your sl-slices from falling apart. N-now, the bat tongue can be a l-little tough, but we c-can cut it lengthwise, and then make some-some dices out of our two long bits.” He knew he would have difficulty preparing these ingredients, so he had done them earlier. He pulled the cloth from the selection next to him. Everything was ready to go! “There’s no water here, our liquid is p-pru-purely from the wine and p-pur-prune juice. We add them to our cauldron, and then light the flame underneath. Only a medium flame, enough to start heating your liquid, not enough to boil it too quickly.” Art had difficulty lighting the match, and dropped about four of them, before he managed to light one and keep hold of it. He put it over the Bunsen burner and turned the gas on. The flame was there, and he set his cauldron over it. “We stir CLOCKWISE, and don’t stop until some-some bubbles ap-appear. Watch as the colour turns from sort of black to a mo-more… purple brown colour.” His liquid started to lighten slightly and turn from a browny red to a browny purple, and little bubbles started forming. “We add our hairy fungus!” He tipped the contents inside one of the little bowls into the cauldron. He set his alarm and continued with the clockwise stirring. “Ten minutes we stir, keeping with the clockwise direction. Watch the colour lighten a little.” It was amazing, seeing how the ingredients visually worked together. He was lost in his own thoughts when his buzzer went off, signalling the end of ten minutes. “This next bit is where we add our toe-tortoise shell, whilst we continue to stir! Clockwise, of course.” He slowly tipped another of the little bowls into the liquid, continuing to stir. “Keep stirring clockwise for EIGHT minutes. You’ll see it turn a creamy colour, after about two minutes.” After a few moments, his potion started to lose the purple colour, and the brown faded to a cream. Perfect. After eight minutes, his timer went off. “We remove the heat,” he said, turning his Bunsen burner off carefully, “And add our caterpillar and bat tongue, whilst we continue to stir CLOCKWISE.” Lots of clockwise stirring in this one. “Five minutes we stir, until the cream starts to green a little.” The timer went on again, and five minutes of clockwise stirring continued. At the end of the five minutes, he pulled his stirrer out and put it on the bench. “Now we wait, ap-approximately twenty minutes. Watch it turn a deeper green colour. Once it turns an emerald green colour, like this,” he said, showing a vial of pre-made aging potion, the very same one he had taken just that morning, “We can bottle it up! I want a labelled vial t-to grade, and then you can leave.” And he would either go to bed to nap the potion off, or else he would find the antidote he had somewhere. OOC: So, no post count! However many posts you feel you need to make is fine. Please see my post about how I will be marking you. There is an IC and an OOC mark. See the ‘OOC’ section for requirements of your posts. I’d like you to do the potion in more than one post, but if you only have time for that then it’s okay. And please, NO EDITING unless it’s for spelling/grammar/coding things. Art and I are still here, and will keep checking in and responding, but if you want us put it in the Title bar so that we can quickly see it, or send me a VM/PM.
This class will continue until approximately May 15th at 3:30pmACST
