His brain had recognised her voice a split second before he launched a stunner at her, and his frown could not have got any deeper. "Do NOT under any circumstances do that to me again! I could have blasted your nose off, Lex. I don't appreciate people creeping up on me."

He took a couple of breaths to calm himself and re-holstered his wand, still giving her a slight glare, before turning his attentions to what they were there to do. Right, yes. Broomsticks. "Yes, at the moment. There's a whole crate of them, but we're analysing this one first. We think it's the same spell on all of them, but we'll see. As for curses, not yet. Generally left 'til last, as the likelihood is small. But what would you suggest?"

Anderson gestured to the broomstick and folded his arms. A fresh pair of eyes might be able to bring a new outlook. And she looked keen to do something. Why did he have a feeling she knew a lot about curse breaking? Research no doubt. The girl never stopped.

His reaction caused a chain reaction in her. In seconds her wand was out too, though not to attack, solely to defend. Her first year at Hogwarts had left her scarred, with all the older students constantly sending silencing spells at her. Add YATI training and suddenly you had a girl on edge just as much as the man before her.

As it so happened, his wand was being lowered and no spells would be fired. Under any other circumstances, Lex might have mentioned the term 'constant vigilance', something all Aurors mixed into their morning coffee but this was hardly the time to be a smart mouth. The LAST thing she was trying to do was be removed from the case before it even started. "Sorry 'bout that. Wasn't trying to creep...just getting off the floor." But in future she'd make loud noises. "As a side note though," The young woman leaned against the table, giving the broom a once over, "How epic of a story would it be getting one's nose blown off in the line of work?" She was sure there were Healers who could fix it. That was the least of her worries.

Now that he was a little calmer and talking about the broom, they could get to the meat of the matter. Lex nodded along to his explanation, her thought process going along the same line his was. They were probably all rigged with the same thing...why would anyone waste time giving each broom an individual curse? And anyway they all did the same thing so...same charm/hex/jinx/curse was most likely.

"I think we should cut this guessing game in half." Came her definitive answer. "There's this spell we learned, Arithmos Revelio. It's this nifty little thing they taught in Arithmancy, tells you exactly what curse is on an object--if any. Once you cast it, numbers will appear in the air, you should work 'em out and bam, half the answer right there." Decoding was the next little niche but if all memory failed, a quick apparition home for her old Arithmancy book wouldn't take that long.
