Hadley was still rather restless after being cooped up inside all summer. Even sitting in the compartments, watching the world go by outside could only be taken for so long before she had to get up and wander a bit. As had become commonplace over the summer, Asher, her ferret, was draped across her shoulders, along for the ride. Every now and then he'd try to nibble on her hair.
Both the ferret and Hadley were a far cry from how they had been at the end of last term. Asher was no longer that spazzy ball of energy that Hadley had to keep on a leash. With little to do over summer, she had spent a good chunk of the time training him and they had grown quite inseparable. It was a good thing Wimple, her owl, wasn't the jealous type when it came to non-owls at least. He was so the jealous type if it was another owl taking Hadley's attention away.
Like Asher, Hads didn't seem like she was going to burst from all the energy she used to have. There was the distinct impression all that energy was still there, though, beneath her much calmer surface. Somehow that impression gave her a slightly menacing vibe. Or maybe it was just the sense of how much she seemed to grow up over the summer. Less than 24 hours away from being a teenager, but already look the part.
As she walked down the train's hallway, Hads was absently surveying the occupants in each compartment with little real interest. She wasn't sure if she was looking for ol' Freckle face, or maybe just looking to avoid being seen by her. Half of her wanted to see her friend again badly, the other half wanted to avoid the interrogation and lecture about the months of silence.
She slipped past another blonde with a cat in tow and absently gave the other girl a nod. Three steps later, recognition kicked in and she stopped and turned on her heels. "Hadleigh?" Even the second year's voice was a bit different, heavier, a bit more mature sounding. Hads had grown another inch over summer, but that was nothing compared to the growth spurt her name twin seemed to have. "Are you taller than me now?" It was hard to say, honestly. The were so close in height now. But even if she wasn't, it was clear Hadley wasn't taller than Hadleigh anymore. At best they were the same height.
