Personality
Blaise is the typical content child. You won’t find him complaining about much and he’s likely to greet you with a smile and an idea of ways to have fun. The only trouble comes with his stubborn nature. Once he has decided that he does not like something, it is very likely he will go to great lengths to avoid it. His character is such that it does not change on a whim and neither flattery nor threats will sway him; all his decisions come from his own innate desire or at the very least his willingness to let the other person have their way.

He is not particularly mischievous and does not go looking for trouble. He is aware of the relationship between action and consequence and seldom makes a conscious effort to rub anyone the wrong way. The problem comes when he gets so caught up in his own fun or his own plans that he does not realize how much of a hindrance it may be to others—of course there also exists the odd case where he feels he is justified and therefore does not care.

His aversion to failure and ridicule sometimes cause him to deliberately miss out on things he may have otherwise liked. Make no mistake, he is competitive and enjoys a challenge but the boy will never enter something he is likely to fail or in his own estimation, make a fool of himself. He is more likely, in these instances, to refuse participation or play it off as if he is not truly interested and as if his lack of interest is the true reason behind his failure as opposed to his inability as his pride will not allow otherwise.

SPOILER!!: Background in heeere
Background
From birth, Blaise had always been the bubbly sort of adventurous boy, the kind his parents expected to come home with the occasional scratch and scrape and tale of adventure. This excessive rough housing only ended when his mother, concerned for the safety of the only child she’d ever raised at the time, thought to find him a more creative outlet. At the age of 7 he was introduced to quick quotes quills and given several classes in creative writing. At first, the little boy didn’t seem very keen on it but he gradually grew attached to his quill as he watched the way it twisted situations to make them vastly more entertaining than when he’d witnessed them himself. After that, he developed a fascination with seeing how the quill could spin things and hasn’t been able to break out of it since. Rather, he has developed a compulsion to record every detail he possibly can then re-read them at a later date.

As a boy, he attended a Wizarding Prep School and participated in extracurricular activities at the Tarantellegra Academy for the Performing Arts. He did not fancy his time at the latter as the boy had no particular aptitude for the classes his mother had signed him up for but Grace was far too concerned about raising an uncultured child to pay much attention to his distaste.

It is believed that his first act of magic occurred at the age of 6 when he had managed to get the cookie jar off the highest cupboard for him and his little sister (a feat thought to be otherwise impossible without magic) but neither parent had seen the chair he’d stuck in the way and his actual act of magic did not come until two years later when the relieved 8 year old finally performed his first magical act. Thinking him an early starter, his father would brag of the great wizard he would be one day and of how impressive he would be when he got his own wand. All this praise filled the boy with unrealistic expectations that set him up for his greatest disappointment.

At Hogwarts, he was sorted into Gryffindor, like his father, and was excited beyond words to be just like him and master magic as soon as he could. This dream was shot down the very next morning during his first ever Charms class when he realized that no matter how he tried, his wand would not work. Utterly mortified, especially given the success of some others in his batch of Firsties, the little boy became sullen. The situation became even worse when one accused him of crying because he couldn’t get the spell right. Completely beyond himself, the boy made the decision that magic was rubbish and he didn’t need it—not if it would reduce him to such humiliation as he had deemed it. Since then, he has made efforts to avoid all classes that require magic while muggling his way around as necessary. In his first year he was placed on Academic Probation however this did not deter him from skipping both Charms and Transfiguration unless personally forced to do so and escorted to the lesson personally. This was usually done by his head of house.

Even now in his third year, he still avoids these classes at the risk of being once again placed on Academic Probation as he considers it the lesser evil. Some of his friends and cousin have offered to and do try to help him with his magic when he lets them but on a larger scale the belief is that he never does magic and never wants to learn. This is what he’ll tell anyone who asks and very very few are privy to the knowledge that he tries to teach himself and practice spells when he is sure he is completely alone and cannot be watched.
