At least that’s how my cousin described it during his seventh year.” Ethan might just be pulling his leg, but the happening will sure spike his interest in water creatures even more.

Ah yes. The joy of questions. Mordred is quite prepared for such queries since this has been his study ever since he started in the Ministry. “Of course. This is just the initial study backed up with information that we already know about dragons. And just like the responsible adults that we are, the study, for now, is strictly for research purposes. I dare not try it out on humans, given that I have only scratched the tip of the iceberg, so tests will be limited to...subjects that are...expendable.” Such as rats. Rats are made for that, yes? “The essence would act as the catalyst to rejuvenate the subject’s current state. Nutrients found in the food we eat, and liquids that we drink find its way in our bloodstream to help us function as soon as the initial stages of digestion is done. This is the same for the essence, only it is faster...and mostly effective to those who have wizarding blood.” It was all simple logic to be honest, but the process to get the essence in its most intact form would be the challenge. Too much extraction processes would weaken the magical properties of said substance.

For some reason however, Mordred was able to pick up something from his conversation with Thomas regarding his son. Is he not close to his offspring? Daddy issues perhaps? “If I am going to be honest with you Thomas, it doesn’t matter where your son was sorted. It’s all about the upbringing, don’t you think?” Merlin. There are kids that are beyond rude and obnoxious, that Mordred has to completely turn around and be blind to it. If he had it his way, he would’ve hexed each and everyone of them. Thank the heavens for blessing him with a wife who could calm him down and bring back his rationale. “The houses are simply there to shape their best traits further, and be a better version of themselves in the end. Although I belong in a long line of Slytherins myself, I still consider my upbringing as the biggest deciding factor for me to end up in the Snake house.” Mordred may still be considered young, but he has given that opinion of his, much thought. He also has a cousin who constantly asked him why he ended up being in Slytherin too when he stood out like a sore thumb.

The dragonologist grinned at the man, and gave him a nod. There was no harm sharing his knowledge with the younger generation and adults alike. He felt really good about it. It was...gratifying in so many ways. And although he’s going to do it without asking anything in return, Mordred was sure that he was able to forge a new bond of brotherhood with this man. He would know of course. They are, after all, former Slytherins.
Thomas raised an eyebrow in confusion “Being watched by one while you sleep? What do you mean by that?”. Merpeople preferred to remain in the shadows and seeing them in the big windows of the common room was rare. But being watched by one while you sleep? He never heard of this before. He tapped his deformed mug making it squeaky clean before putting it away and resting his elbows on his knees, leaned forward giving Morded his full attention.

He nodded as he heard the younger man speak. He wasn’t going to interject or act like he knew what he was talking about because his knowledge on animals such as dragons was indeed very small. He knew which end breathed fire and which end had spikes and that was - most of the times - enough to keep him alive in the rare occasions he had to face a beast like that. But he knew about magically empowered concoctions and the might of the wizarding blood and bonds. He tapped his chin a few times in thought. How to comment on this matter without giving too much away? “That is all rather interesting, I’ll give you that, no doubt. You should talk with my my department head sometime, maybe we can help you with your research. Provide some tools?” After all they did have all sorts of unusual equipment, with the proper authorization it was ok to share. Maybe they could use the Time Chamber to extract the essence while preserving it’s properties?

Yes, it was all about the upbringing, yet he sadly he felt like that was something Andi deserved most credit for, not him. “Totally agree. Though I still like to tease him for being a Gryffindor when he’s was the biggest scaredy cat during his first year.” he chuckled “I mean, Gryffindors are supposed to be brave and have some sort of hero complex right?” he said with a smirk. He knew those stereotypes where rubbish but it still amused him to tease his son mercilessly.

Thomas, liked to consider himself more like the Get-the-Job-Done-No-Matter-What type. Which coincidentally was in line with the description of his house "Those cunning folk use any means, to achieve their ends" or something like that right? He delivered his work, completed his missions, all very neat, all very clean. Never in 16 years had he returned empty handed. He particularly enjoyed working in the special rooms that existed inside the department where one could be stranded in time, floating endlessly...
