The fact that Mordred turned out to be a fellow Slytherin made Thomas’ mind relax a little. Maybe he’s all right. Thomas wanted to believe Andi’s words that people weren’t all bad, but he wouldn’t help being suspicious and cautious of strangers since after all these years in the Department of Mysteries the most valuable lesson he learnt had been: better safe than sorry. Thomas grinned as the Dragon subject seemed to please the young man and he dove into conversation. “I won’t lie to you and say that the notion of how this drink is infused isn’t quite…strange” he picked his words carefully, he did not want to be misinterpreted “but I’m also aware that this, as any scientific experience, is a strictly regulated and controlled experience, right? I see no reason not to try it. Plus the after effects really intrigue me. I mean we all know about the properties of Dragon’s blood, but what do you think will be the effects of this infusion?”. Yes he wouldn’t mind trying the drink, he enjoyed coffee and even though Dragonology and Magizoology were fields he had little knowledge about, he was intrigued by the effects this powerful tonic infused drink might have. And in addition to that he was reasonably sure that there were more efficient and…clean ways of killing someone inside the MoM than with a dung infused drink. “I’d say Wes is a bit atypical since he was brought up by a Ravenclaw and a Slytherin.” he chuckled “Guess we rubbed off on him some other traits”. Yes, he knew all about the stereotypes that revolved around each house. Luckily for him Wes didn’t fit in any. He had his own mind and ideas about what he wanted to do with life. But he was dead loyal to those he loved, Thomas guessed that was the Gryffindor vein in his son. “Whatever you can arrange I’ll be in your debt Mordred, you have my word” and having a debt to collect from an Unspeakable often proved to be useful. Thomas must have taste somehow, as he preferred t o have the black leather sofas to cradle their bums at the moment. “The common room was our home away from home. We are bound to miss it at some point,” he said toying his empty coffee cup, “It is quite rare to see the merpeople swim about at a certain time during the day, what is more bizarre however is being watched by one while you sleep. At least that’s how my cousin described it during his seventh year.” Ethan might just be pulling his leg, but the happening will sure spike his interest in water creatures even more.
Ah yes. The joy of questions. Mordred is quite prepared for such queries since this has been his study ever since he started in the Ministry. “Of course. This is just the initial study backed up with information that we already know about dragons. And just like the responsible adults that we are, the study, for now, is strictly for research purposes. I dare not try it out on humans, given that I have only scratched the tip of the iceberg, so tests will be limited to...subjects that are...expendable.” Such as rats. Rats are made for that, yes? “The essence would act as the catalyst to rejuvenate the subject’s current state. Nutrients found in the food we eat, and liquids that we drink find its way in our bloodstream to help us function as soon as the initial stages of digestion is done. This is the same for the essence, only it is faster...and mostly effective to those who have wizarding blood.” It was all simple logic to be honest, but the process to get the essence in its most intact form would be the challenge. Too much extraction processes would weaken the magical properties of said substance.
For some reason however, Mordred was able to pick up something from his conversation with Thomas regarding his son. Is he not close to his offspring? Daddy issues perhaps? “If I am going to be honest with you Thomas, it doesn’t matter where your son was sorted. It’s all about the upbringing, don’t you think?” Merlin. There are kids that are beyond rude and obnoxious, that Mordred has to completely turn around and be blind to it. If he had it his way, he would’ve hexed each and everyone of them. Thank the heavens for blessing him with a wife who could calm him down and bring back his rationale. “The houses are simply there to shape their best traits further, and be a better version of themselves in the end. Although I belong in a long line of Slytherins myself, I still consider my upbringing as the biggest deciding factor for me to end up in the Snake house.” Mordred may still be considered young, but he has given that opinion of his, much thought. He also has a cousin who constantly asked him why he ended up being in Slytherin too when he stood out like a sore thumb.
The dragonologist grinned at the man, and gave him a nod. There was no harm sharing his knowledge with the younger generation and adults alike. He felt really good about it. It was...gratifying in so many ways. And although he’s going to do it without asking anything in return, Mordred was sure that he was able to forge a new bond of brotherhood with this man. He would know of course. They are, after all, former Slytherins.
