Yes, he was a troublemaker, and yes, she stupidly still talked to him. This was going to change, though. She had made a HUGE mistake. Although a small voice at the back of her mind knew that he had absolutely nothing to do with her situation now (it wasn't like the boy stopped her from studying); she ignored that voice. She had APPARENTLY done something wrong here, even though she'd always been successful in the past. The most obvious difference between past and present was him - she should have ignored him from the beginning. What if successful potential friends thought she was a loser now too? Besides, she couldn't find any other difference, so it MUST be him. Of course, she might lose David too, but... if David wanted to spend time with a loser, it was his problem.

And as you can observe, folks, that fanatic and obsessive people might have the right data, but they interpret it in the wrongest way possible, and being clever does not save you from this huge mistake.

At his suggestion, she looked at him in utter disgust. "What does a girl like me have to do with a loser like her?!" she asked, completely missing his point. "She's disrespectful, lazy, a complete trouble and rude. I don't even know how she got into Ravenclaw." She should have been a - a Gryffindor, like him.

This is wrong...

"And I know everything a first year ought to!" she said hotly, "and most of the things a second year should, as well." In case he took her as a loser too, she was not. People were jealous of her, always had been, always would be. "And I'll keep correcting them, because it's only right." To correct people. But what did he know?

"Like I said, forget it," she said in the end, obviously flustered, and got up. "I have to go. Goodbye." She didn't know if he'd understand that it was a goodbye, but she didn't really care either. Now, she had to go back to studying for exams and sort out her life.
