Biting her lip slightly in concentration, Esme added a cup of water to the beaker while making sure not to spill any on the ground around her. She had no idea how important it was to be accurate with this test and felt that it was always better to be safe than sorry.
Pointing her wand at the mixture she spoke in a clear voice. "Cibus Revelio."
Based on the last time she had collected a sample, she knew that it would take a few moments for the colour change to appear. Holding the beaker outwards and tilting her head on a slight angle she watched closely and waited to see when the change would begin to take place. At first she didn't notice it but soon it became rather apparent that the sample had taken a red hue. That meant that she needed to add some ground carbon and massage it into the earth.
Measuring out a tablespoon of the powdered carbon that had been with the supplies they were given, Esme added it to the beaker and worked to mix everything together. The red colour faded and was replaced with the brown that it had been previously so she knew that the carbon had done its job. Pleased she set about pouring the mixture back where she had gotten it from. Gently and thoroughly she massaged it into the ground with her hands so that the earth would get the full benefit of what she had done. |
