"Hmmm," he said while pursing his lips. "Sounds like a new Zonko's product...if I am being honest. The sort meant to scare the victim as as a prank..." He reached forward and plucked the shoe from the sweatshirt and gave it a look over. He briefly recalled the time he and Maddox had given detention and the astronomer had supplied a porcelain doll that wore similar shoes to this one. Which now made him tempted to blame Daphne. She was the sort to send him dolls as a reminder of how much poltroon she found him to be.

And she would try and scare his own students so they would come crying to him. She knew how he was with tears.

Thankfully, it had found its way to two Gryffindors who were not shedding tears.

Assuming there was a connection to Daphne at all.

"Well..." he continued, giving his wand a bit of a wave over the shoe. "I see no remnants of cursework or any sort of enchantments...so I wouldn't dwell on things. Perfectly harmless shoe you've got here."

And then he offer the shoe back.

It would have simply been better for her to take the Professor's words at face value, to thank him and be on their merry little ways. Hold her head high, despite the knowledge that Kaycee would undoubtly tell her that she told her so. At least, they had checked.

Thing was, Amur wasn't always rational and when it came to Hogwarts and strange things, there was absolutely no need to be rational. When it came to Hogwarts and Professors having a knack this term for putting students in awkward situations, there was even less need.

So, it was hard to tell if it was on account of some irrational rationality, or simply immediate reaction and response. As soon as Flamsteed handed the shoe over, Amur dropped it on the ground and had her wand out in the blink of an eye.

The spell came as easily as a thank you, but was so much more satisfying. "Incendio!"

Poor poor shoe. It made for nice kindling. Whoever had lost it, shouldn't have played such a prank.

But in case either of them were wondering, now she felt better.
