J.K. Rowling went on Twitter to clarify what's in store for the upcoming
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script book, set to release on her 51st birthday, July 31, 2016.
While
Cursed Child will be the eighth installment in the
Harry Potter saga, it will not be written in typical novel form. It will be a printed version of the London stage's script, which will include dialogue, brief descriptions and stage directions. Also note that the script was written not only by Rowling, but BAFTA award-winning playwright Jack Thorne.
Pre-order the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child hardcover copy here. No word yet on how many pages it will include.
Another significant thing to point out that the version out in July is the REHEARSAL script, which means it may not be the final draft that will be used once the two-part plays officially open at the end of July. That rehearsal version will be available for a limited time only.
There will be a DEFINITIVE, final version of the script published from Scholastic and Little, Brown UK at a future date. So yes, there will be two different editions of
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in book-form releasing to fans.
The first previews of the two
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child plays at the Palace Theatre in London, starring Jamie Parker, Paul Thornley and Noma Dumezweni, begin in late May.
