Born to MACUSA's Head Auror and Salem's Potions Mistress, Lylah grew up very familiar with the wizarding world. She went to daycare at MACUSA and made it her business to learn as much as she could about every single department. As a child, her ambition was to someday become wizard President. She made friends with the children of important people, department heads and such. She often gave campaign speeches to her peers. As she grew older, her childhood ambition fell away but she remained a natural leader. She was elected student body president at Salem.

When Lylah was 14, her parents got a divorce. She lived with her dad over the summer, and of course she saw her mom during the school year. Lylah had always been closer to her dad. He was the 'fun' parent. She thought her mom was too strict, even if the rules were only to protect her. At school, she intentionally messed with her mother. She would fail potions on purpose (just the class, she would never take a joke so far as to intentionally fail an exam).

Lylah attented Wizarding University in Montreal. Through her own skill, though also her father's connections, she was offered an internship with the DMLE at MACUSA. She accepted a full-time position upon graduation. There, she met and soon married an auror. Not long after, she transferred to the Minister's Office as liason to the DMLE. Most recently, she was promoted to one of the Minister's Advisors. It was around this time that she gave birth to a baby girl, Macy Elizabeth Wood.

Approximately six months after the birth of her daughter, Lylah's father and husband were both killed on an auror mission. Overwhelmed with grief, she resigned from her job. A few months later she moved out of the country and decided to apply at the British Ministry of Magic.
