Haddie sighed and rolled her eyes in dramatic fashion. How many times did she have to tell her BFF this? "I don't name them, duh. They tell me their name. Your wand's name is Pearl." The wand had told Haddie her name back in October. "When I'm old enough, I'm going to get a glowing tattoo on my wand hand that mirrors the design I'm getting for Kira." Haddie shoveled a large forkful of her breakfast into her mouth, glitter and all. It was enough food to make her cheeks bulge. She was two bites in when her eyes went wide in that way they did when Haddie got a new, brilliant idea. She began chewing faster and trying to wash it all down with gulps of her pumpkin juice. It still took a minute and a half before she was able to talk again.
"Our wands are twins, right?" She wasn't asking, she was just reminding Rachel of this undeniable fact. "So you should do the same with Pearl. So they still match. Only," she paused to take a real sip of her pumpkin juice as she thought. "Pearl should have pink metal inlaid. Tiny bronze eagles that eventually turn into tiny pink bubbles that spiral up the length of her. That was the first magic you and Pearl did together right? A pink bubble?"
There was something about immortalizing the first bit of magic a witch or wizard did with their wand that spoke to Haddie. That's why she wanted to have it a permanent part of both herself and her wand. She didn't really think Rachel would get the tattoo like Haddie planned on, but still, having that moment forever a part of her wand would remind her of the special bond she and Pearl had. And remind her of the special bond Rachel had with Haddie. "You should! We can go together over Christmas break!"
Rachel giggled. "Sorry, Haddie. You're a wand whisperer but I keep forgetting they tell you their names.'' She didn't have to wait too long for the name of her own wand to be known. "What a lovely name. I like it. Don't you, Pearl?" As she was speaking, she had brought forth her wand and laid it on the table. Rachel looked at it as though expecting to hear it reply but of course it did no such thing. "That will be either sixteen or seventeen. That will be an interesting design. It'll look pretty on you.'' She suspected all along that Haddie would be getting tattoos because of her fascination with the Tattoo parlour in Diagon Alley on her first trip to Diagon Alley.
The girl continued to eat, her attention back on Haddie when she noticed the puffed out cheeks and familiar wide eyes. Haddie was onto something. "Take your time. You don't want to choke,'' Rachel cautioned. But Haddie swallowed safely after a minute or so of tense waiting on Rachel's end. Honestly, her best friend was always making her worry about her.
"I suppose they are if you want to think of them that way.'' Their wands shared the same core and Haddie was convinced they were twins. Rachel's face lit up when the suggestion was placed that she decorate Pearl too. Pink! There was a mention of pink! "This sounds brilliant, Haddie. Yes, it was bubbles.'' She had told her friend all about the happenings at Ollivander's. "What colours will you do yours in? More importantly, when do we get started on this?'' Oh, were those cupcakes over there? They were Rachel's favourite sweet treats. "Can you please pass me a cupcake, Haddie?''
