What was going on here?! Kaycee got dizzy when the smoke started. And confused. And then the headmistress was there.

She ducked and blindly swatted above her near her head. THE BIRD WAS GOING TO EAT THEM NOW! At least she had enough common sense right now to swat at it.
She grabbed at her wand and looked around. What were they supposed to do?!
"Is everyone okay?" she asked looking around. There was still yelling so she assumed nobody was okay. But, like, asking meant she cared a little and was at least trying, right?
