Maybe she was jaded to the idea of creatures swimming by from time to time, but it hardly seemed news anymore.
"Lucky for you, I'm not a super evil dark wizard or witch. I'm just very sneaky. Like a perfectly not evil ninja witch." Dot smoothed the cloth over her lap to make sure the stitches came out even and straight before turning her attention back to Ariadne. "Come look for yourself. I've seen all sorts of creatures out those windows. And mermaids... they swim. They frown. The usual."
Ariadne gave the older girl a light laugh.
"That must be what made you a Slytherin. I still don't really know exactly what made me one, unless blood lines count for a part of it," she said.
"I think mine is ambition! The hat almost put me in Gryffindor, though. It said it couldn't decide, so it just went with the one I was hoping for." Ariadne didn't think she'd make a good Lion, though. They were way too brave for her!
Ariadne kept up conversation, but her eyes were glued to the gateway to the lake. She was hoping to see a REAL MERMAID!
"So how do you like being a prefect? I bet you feel super cool and awesome all the time!" she continued. Ariadne felt super cool and awesome just talking to Dot! Ariadne bounced a little and started to point out the window, but then...it was just a rock. That didn't stop her from looking...CONSTANTLY looking...for something more interesting to pass by.
