She'd only talked to her new friend once since getting to Hogwarts, and even then it was the middle of an activity. Pairing up to duel one another was at least another chance to hang out! She really needed to start meeting up with friends OUTSIDE of class, too.

She glanced at all the gear the professor had given them and gestured to her own get-up. "Do you think I have this on the right way?" she asked. The whole thing seemed kind of Muggle-ish to her, and that was something she was SUPER unfamiliar with. She'd done a pretty good job, although the shin pads were a little high. "So how do you want to do this?" she asked him. "Do you want me to step back, and then you can try a pretend sneak attack?" Hopefully it would be PRETEND. Ariadne was still kind of doubting her abilities, and dueling against a second year probably put her in a vulnerable spot.
Yay! He had a partner. He was confident Ariadne would be a good partner, too. She'd given smart answers all class period.

He smiled at her question about all the padding, starting to hook his onto his midriff. "It looks okay," the Ravenclaw replied, "though your knee things," he gestured toward the shin guards, "might be up a bit high?" He didn't really know either, so he hurriedly strapped his stuff on so he wasn't holding her up. They probably didn't even need all this padding for a simple exercise. Now then, somebody had to grab the other, and he liked her idea of pretending. He had an idea already, in fact; an idea he hadn't gotten to try over the summer....

"Sure. You can be the girl who wanted to explore... hm, Knockturn Alley, and I'll be the scary Dark wizard who surprise-grabs you to sell you on the House Elf market." Even though she was a human. Whatever! That was probably a thing, right? Selling kids to replace old house elves? Well it was a thing for now, for their purposes.

To start them off right, Davie gave her the nod to go ahead and start pretending, shoving his hands into his pockets and scowling like all Dark wizards probably did, and taking a few roundabout paces away from her.
