You should come and say more nice stuff about me like you did in Airey's office 'cause maybe then my parents will regret killing me--actually, maybe you should come before that so they don't kill me to begin with." Dead. Kid. Walking. "Let's just say...they weren't too thrilled about the food fight right after begging me to stay out of trouble this year."

So yeah, his dad wanted him to be better at magic but even learning a million spells between now and December wouldn't save his butt. Might as well dictate an amazing life story to his quill, let it embellish about him after he was gone.

But enough about HIM, the summer Davie had just explained had his eyes widening in awe. Peru! Dragons! Oh Merlin, never before had he felt his summer had been such a waste--he knew it was but after this, there wasn't a doubt in his mind. Quidditch to boot! Sweet Circe. "Mate....mate, how did you convince yourself to come back after a summer like THAT?" Guaranteed, Blaise would have hidden in the attic or something.

Then there was a dragon. His dragon? He could keep it?? "Wicked!" The Gryffindor reached carefully for the almost real life dragon. "This. Is. AMAZING." Words, what were they? It took a moment of more awed staring before something finally clicked in his head. "Oh! I have something for you too!" Continuing on his careful path, he put the dragon down before reaching into his only extended robe and pulling out something he thought his friend might really like. "Saw it in the shop and remembered how much you like them."
David took a peek at what Blaise wanted to trade while his friend talked, looking up only at the phrase 'food fight.' It wasn't that the other phrases didn't interest him, but he didn't know Blaise's parents and he probably wouldn't be confident enough to defend him at a Christmas party, if that's what he was asking. He didn't study magical law, after all. Hah ha.

"Wait, the food fight?" the Ravenclaw repeated. "So what if you were involved in that nonsense? It's not like you started it." He rolled his eyes. "I heard Sir Nick started the fight. And your parents can't re-kill a ghost unless they have a basilisk, so you should be fine!" Right? Right.

The second year went back to pulling out a few of his cards he was willing to trade when Blaise asked him a perfectly weird question. "Uhhh." A bit of a blush started to grow on David's cheeks. "I just--- I like school?" His family did fantastic traveling things all the time. Actually, his parents probably traveled even more without him, like while he was at school. They probably threw parties without him! They were probably hanging out with like--- like Char's and Cal's and Genny's parents RIGHT NOW! He could just see them, all sitting in a circle and doing old people stuff, like reading the Daily Prophet out loud to each other whilst playing wizard chess! The second year's brow furrowed with this image in his mind.

"I mean, yeah, summer was alright." He was trying not to brag, remember? And besides, the important thing here was that BLAISE LIKED HIS DRAGON! Awwwwww yeah!!!!!!!! David grinned. "It is, isn't it? I got one too. We should try to see if they'll fight!" His was actually up in his dorm right now, but he could bring it to their next class to show Blaise. Then the Gryffindor produced something that was altogether impressive too!

A quick quotes quill of his own! "THE NEW MR. GREEN!!!!" Davie yelped, excited accepting the quill and tickling his own cheek with it in glee. "Can you show me how to get it to float like yours? THIS IS AWESOME. THANKS, BLAISE. I should use this to interview the new professors!" Well, the ones he hadn't already visited. Ahem.

If the two boys were to turn their heads to the doorway at exactly the right moment, maybe her shadow could be seen walking past the open door.

Another giggle. Another empty hallway once more.
Getting out his journal so the quill would have something to float on, David almost didn't hear the echo of a laugh from the corridor. Almost. But then he glanced toward the doorway and noticed a tiny shadow just passing the edge of the door frame.

"Did you hear that, mate?" he wondered aloud, shaking his head at the laugh. Weird. That shadow had looked inconceivably small, almost like the size of... a toy. Hah. Nah. "First years, am I right?" All these first year GIRLS were just messing with his mind.
