"The polecats aren't going to trust you if you keep refusing to pick them up," Ailsa informed the boy who'd been going all red around Rachel earlier as she walked by with another robefull of the ferrets in her arms. "You can tell they're unsure about you because of their squeaking."
She emptied her bathrobe into a waiting cage save for one occupant, which she cradled in one arm while walking back over to the bespectacled puffskein collector. "If you're calm and gentle they're really quite nice," she told the boy as she stroked the little mustelid, which now seemed quite content, "you just have to remember that they startle easily."
