"I'm Katherine Moss," she said, because she didn't want to talk about his dad's or her magical ability and knowledge right now. She held out her hand to shake and smiled at him.

Dad's a wizard, Mum's a....? David didn't pry with this question, however. He didn't even care ~~that much~~ about blood status. So. Maybe her dad hadn't been a very good wizard.

He shook her proffered hand politely. "Katharine, nice to meet you. I'm David Truebridge. Second year." And since she was new, he thought he would ask the obvious, usual question. "How are you finding Hogwarts so far?"
