HE. WAS. BRILLIANT! The eleven year old rushed to empty the basket of carrots, and went back to the boy. “Do it again! I’ll catch your target, let’s go!” he said enthusiastically, and waited for him to throw the ball creature.
Garreth hadn't intended to invent a puff-catching strategy when he came to Rachel's rescue, but another first year seemed to see the value in his tactic. The boy rather enthusiastically called out to him to repeat the feat and cast the critters into his basket. As good a plan as that was, Garreth wasn't sure he'd be able to replicate the success of the first panicked attempt, but it wasn't as if he had any better ideas of his own.
Giving the other boy a quick nod, he rushed to find another critter. While he tried to move quickly and maneuver himself in such a way that another puffskein found itself between him and Jace, he wasn't so quick that Jace didn't have time for his attention to drift. Tracing the other boy's gaze, Garreth also found himself horrified by what was happening to the girl (
Julia) with the monsters' tongue up her nose. He shot a glance back at the beast on the floor between him and Jace, and decided in a flash he wasn't going to let let monster do that to anyone else. Best to take care of that before rushing to the girl's aid.
"Heads up!" he called to the other boy whose name he didn't know, hoping he'd be quick enough to catch the beast in the basket. Another
"Flipendo!", and a flick of the wand produced another knockback jinx - this time of a respectable strength - that launched the puffskein towards the other boy.
There was no time to see if he managed to catch the little demon, he had to help the girl being violated by the puffskeins! He rushed over and without really knowing what he was doing, tried to yank one of them of her face. Garreth had read about puffskeins, and their undying hunger for boogers, but in none of his books did anyone say what to do when under siege by one. In fact, they all said they preferred to eat the boogers of sleeping wizards, not ones who were awake and fighting back.
