Personality

Quiet and bookish, Ailsa is nonetheless no stranger to action, or, at least, to the out-of-doors. While you won't find her jumping off of bridges into streams for thrills you probably will find her up to her knees in the mud at the side of the stream curiously peering at salamanders or intently watching a spider build its web. She's also fond of working with potions as her generally calm and analytical mind finds itself perfectly at home with the order and precision required for potions making.

She's quite fond of animals - of all living things really - and this fondness tends to run in both directions. And while it might not be apparent immediately given her tendency to withdraw from crowds or any moderate hubub, Ailsa truly does enjoy people quite a lot.

History

Technically Ailsa is a half-blood, but her connection to the wizarding world is rather attenuated due to the fact that her mother, while a reasonably powerful witch, was muggle-born. For Brighid, Ailsa's mother, keeping the family farm that had belonged to Ailsa's muggle grandparents meant maintaining sizable connections with the muggle world. The fact that Brighid married a muggle man only cemented the decision to live largely within the muggle community.

While the wizarding world was by no means hidden from Ailsa (indeed, Ailsa's favorite book as a toddler had been her mother's battered copy of "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" and she'd been helping her mother with simple potions for the family's livestock since she was 5 or 6), the fact is that her childhood prior to Hogwarts was, at least superficially, little different from a muggle childhood.
