So instead he gave his usual, close-lipped smile. He was happy to have her sitting here.
"Nope, I like sharks best of all." Though he had read about the squid and the other creatures living in the lake at Hogwarts. "I heard it's pretty rare to see the giant squid..." His eyes drifted out over the water.
That is, until he heard someone asking to sit in the boat. Sam looked up to see another girl their age, and he shifted his bum over some to make room for her. "Enter at your own risk. That girl there might make you wipe out in the process." Genny, naturally.

She countered in what she thought was a sophisticated argument on her part, thank you very much.
WHY did he keep saying that? And to a new girl! Genny's face turned slightly red (though who could tell in this dark night?) and the words came out of her mouth instantly, "This boy's name's Sharksy." TAKE THAT. "And you're welcome to our boat. I'm Genny, a normal, human name." Unlike Sam's.
Whew, her small ball of anger vanished. Being mean was such a good outlet.
"Dere's a big squid in t'lake?" Sam asked, catching the thread of the conversation as she fully stepped in the boat despite the boy's warning. She didn't seriously think the girl would wipe her out. "Dat's pretty cool. Is it friendly?" Perhaps not, given the girl's response.
Regardless, she sat down in the space the boy had made and gave them both a smile. "'lright, Sharksy." She nodded at the introduction, not clicking it was possibly a nickname at best. "And Genny. Nice ta meet ya. Me name's Sam." She ran her fingers over the rim of the boat lightly, almost tempted to dip them in the water, large squid or not.
"So, did ya only jus' meet, or y'known each'ovver fo' a while?"
