Wizarding primary school had been great but at Hogwarts, they would be able to do lots and lots of magic. She could hardly wait to get started on Charms, Transfiguration and most of all, Herbology.

"Haddie talks to inanimate objects,'' Rachel explained to Garreth with a giggle. "They talk back to her.'' She playfully nudged her girl best friend in the ribs. "I know you're not completely crazy though. No, I don't think it wants to talk to me just yet. Perhaps it will speak to you?'' She cast another look outside at the family. "We can try writing to her at least once and see how things go.''

"Garreth? What's your wand?" He had never told her about his. Was it similar to hers like hers and Haddie's? How exciting that would be!

She leaned forward to see Garreth better. "I'm not as crazy as Rachel makes me sound. She just doesn't understand," Haddie punctuated that by returning the playful elbowing in the ribs. "It's not like they talk to me in words or anything. I just, um-- Things have their own spirits and identities and personalities, you know? It's like..." She paused. She was about to go into her long time spiel of how computers had their own temperaments and quirks that you had to learn to work with, but then she realized her new world was filled with actual examples, and smiled. "Like the measuring tape at Ollivander's! He's just an object, enchanted to move and work on his own, right? And now he can show everyone his personality. His name is La Rue, by the way."

She leaned back in her seat, sitting up a bit straighter, more regal, and smiled that now familiar Haddie smile, the one she had whenever she was exceptionally pleased with herself. "It's like that. I can see their spirit and personality and identity." Her pleased-with-herself smile grew bigger for a second.

"Oh yes! Can we see your wand, Gary? Is your wand a boy or girl?"

There was another burst of giggles from the girl at the return nudge in the ribs. "I'll leave it up to you to determine how crazy she is, Garreth.'' She nodded. "I know what you mean. It's something that can't be exactly explained.'' Rachel did understand what Haddie was trying to say though but she was not prepared for the name of the tape measure at Ollivander's. ''It- I mean he also spoke to you?''

Rach shook her head. Haddie was an unusual girl but she wouldn't have her any other way. Gary? "You've found him a nickname! I've been wondering about one for him.'' She smiled at Garreth, wondering what he thought of his new name.

She rolled her eyes this time. She loved Rachel but sometimes her best friend could so dense. "Of course La Rue spoke to me. You saw him. He shouted who he was to everyone in that store." DUH! Gary was a prime example of this. "You couldn't come up with Gary?" she teased, playfully.

Despite his normally mellow behavior, Garreth couldn't even begin to try to contain his excitement when it came to going to Hogwarts. Actually saying it out loud in an attempt to get Rachel pumped up nearly overloaded his brain with excitement, and he squirmed gleefully in his seat. "It's finally happening! We're actually going!" he squealed in response to Rachel. He was aware of her fondness of her Cactus, and imagined she would enjoy the herbology classes, but he himself was looking forward to Charms most of all. Or was it, Defense against the Dark Arts? Or was it Transfiguration? Or maybe Muggle Studies? He couldn't possibly decide!

That would have to be a decision for another time though, as they had drifted onto a very interesting subject. "Talks to inanimate objects?" he repeated, as if to be sure he heard correctly. The way Rachel worded it, it sure did sound a lot like Haddie was losing her marbles, but her defense made it much clearer. As he listened intently to her explanation, his expression morphed from a confused crunch of disbelief into an open smile of realization and understanding. "No, no, Haddie's explanation makes perfect sense." he began, basking in the glory of learning something new. "With what we know about Wandlore, it's entirely possible - likely, even - that wands and certain other inanimate objects, are capable of communication. I for one, find the idea of a wand having a gender absolutely fascinating!" he enthused for a moment before the attention was drawn to his own wand.

His face flushed with excitement once more as the opportunity presented itself for him to show off the wand, of which he was so proud. He reached into the messenger bag between his feet, and grunted at the nickname he'd received from Haddie. "Garry?" He smirked, still rummaging around in the bag. "My father wouldn't approve, but I kinda like it!" he smiled, finally finding and fishing out the leather carrying case containing his wand.

"Isn't it beautiful?" he giggled, opening the case and presenting to his friends an unusually long wand, made of Rosewood. Its form was straight and slender, but far from boring. The wood of the handle seemed to curve around itself to form perfect impressions of a young wizard's grip, and intricate, albeit very feint symbols and markings ran down the entire length of the wand. Despite the elegant appearance, the wood was incredibly rigid and firm to the touch. "Sixteen inch, Dragon Heartstring."The boy was obviously very proud of it, but Haddie's question still puzzled him. "You know, it's funny. I've spent a lot of time studying this wand, and getting to know it.. But it never even occurred to me to ask it for a gender." he shrugged.
