Teddy was still giggling into his hands, wondering what a Pikachu was, and finding it even funnier that Mr. Ryden was also laughing. Teddy smiled, returning Jace's. "I... wear underpants too Jace," he said with a shrug. He would have been pretty embarrassed his his came out of his trunk in front of people. It didn't appear that many, or anyone, had seen, thankfully.
"He was, I think. He looked old, but I don't know how old. Probably almost a hundred, I'd say." ....Teddy raised an eyebrow. "A... Ojisan? what's that?" Drats, why DIDN'T he bring a notepad. He knew what a samurai was...well, he sort of did.
Teddy nodded. "Of course!" He absolutely would. All of the houses had good people, he was sure. He hadn't met them all, but he was sure they existed. Teddy thought about that. "Well... my family always said that I would be in Ravenclaw, and Ava would be in Gryffindor, and they were right. I think my personality suits Ravenclaw. But my entire family, besides us, were Slytherin. I think... I think if you really wanted to be in a certain house, as long as you would suit that house, it would listen."
Good! Teddy is a fast learner.
“Yes. You use arigatou if it is a casual conversation...but, you have to use arigatou gozaimasu if the conversation is formal, or addressing an older person.” Did Teddy catch that? There were rules to follow, and Japan is a sucker for that.
Jace’s cheeks turned pink as he gave his friend a shy smile. It was really nice of him to console him in such a way. He did feel better though!
“I’m really sorry about that.” He said glancing at his father who was still on the floor looking at them with interest. "Well...at least yours doesn't come in bright yellow...does it?" he asked the older boy. It'll be a shocker if he did!
The 11 year old turned his attention back to Teddy as he safely secured his trunk, and sat on it.
“A hundred? That’s...impressive! And a teacher still! Well, until he retired that is...” he trailed off wondering if he’d get that old.
"He must love teaching...and learning too!" He didn’t like the idea of achy joints though...or a busted hip. Nope! Oh, and there was another question! Jace straightened up from where he was sitting and smiled at
his student.
“Ojiisan is what we call our grandfathers in Japan. Obaasan for grandmothers.” Merlin, Jace was enjoying the conversation very much!
But the houses! It was more interesting of course.
“My papa’s parents were in Hufflepuff before. But my papa ended up in Ravenclaw.” He looked at his dad and beamed at him proudly.
“I suppose ending up in a different house isn’t so bad. It’s just that...it would be great if I’m in the same house as you...and my papa.” He said smiling at Teddy.
“I think it wouldn’t hurt if I ask the Sorting Hat myself, right?” Like...it won’t bite his head off if he did?
