Those words struck home and he tried not to feel embarrassed by the obvious pride in them. He just wished he felt that brave now. His audience certainly bothered him more now than it had that Christmas Day. And he couldn’t quite match the grin of his boyfriend as blue eyes met brown. Just stare until words were spoken once more from around them, unfortunately one beating out the rest.
Benny held his ground as all attention was on him, especially Adi’s mother. But it wasn’t like it helped much. No matter how Indira tried to soften the blow, it still felt like a slap in the face to the younger boy. Yeah, she still considered him a son, yet she blamed him for the issue before them all. Not in so many words but in the choice of phrase and he couldn’t help but lower his gaze and sigh. A few moments later, his grasp on Adi loosened and he pulled his hand free. “Excuse me…” he said ever so quietly before quickly turning and slipping off towards the kitchen for lack of a better place to escape.
“Ben…” Cassiopeia said, moving as if to stand and follow her son but stopped by her husband, the two meeting each other’s gaze and silent words passing between them for a few moments before Lukas spoke. “Let him go…It can’t have been easy to come here and do this. So if he needs space, let him have it.”
