I don't think duelling is for me." And that was the decision he had made. He'd been beaten by a bully and then beaten by a Muggle and everything was just wrong for the Ravenclaw and using his wand that way. He wasn't cut out for it.
A small smile touched Sabel's lips at the boy's explanation, and he nodded his head in understanding.
"It's not for everyone. But you did well."
He could have gone on to say that the kid shouldn't be discouraged, for in every failure there was a lesson, but at the moment he didn't feel like being philosophical. That, and an extended hand for a handshake seemed to speak more than enough words.
SPOILER!!: Davie!

Gaping mouth spreading into a grin, Davie hinged in his seat and beamed at the professor. "Thanks, sir! I also wanted to say thanks for running the dueling club. It was a lot of fun. I hope we get to do it again next term." Or even if he didn't duel, he could at least watch some of them!
The look on the kid's face was priceless. Though it did remind him of something. He was going to have to warn Sander, and tell him to leave out certain names and locations, wasn't he? Goodness knew with the palpable curiosity beaming on Truebridge's face, it was likely he would go investigate the
exact location for some sort of reenactment. Anastasia would skin him if she found out.
No sooner was he about to offer some sort of warning advice or condition of such disclosure, when the topic of the dueling club was brought up. Sabel's smile did a bit of a waver, but he held it fast.
"Thank you for joining, Truebridge. You did exceptionally well."
And as for next term? A slow breath out.
"The club is scheduled to run again, but the ultimate decision will lie with your new Defense Professor." News. Dropped. He sped up a bit more to try and roll it all into something that really wasn't a big deal.
"I've got some personal matters to attend to, so I won't be returning to Hogwarts."
Yeah there was that. But he wasn't going to leave it like that. Holding out his hand, in what he'd seen done as a fist-bump gesture, Sabel smiled at the kid.
"It's been a slice." SPOILER!!: Evie! >.>

Oh, this was.... OH. She knew what this was! Evie stood back up and quickly opened the letter, just to confirm her suspicions. Her mind was too scattered to read the whole thing, but she skimmed enough to know what it said.
Evie's face broke out into a grin, well aware that Dakest was not smiling one bit. "Thank you!" she said excitedly, nodding. She would let him know if she needed anything. He probably knew that. She'd be contacting him after school was out, anyway.
Without hesitation and with a squeak of excitement, Evie flung her arms around the man and gave him a HUG. BIG EVIE HUG. Something she would never have done up until this point. She didn't make it long and painful for him, though. She pulled herself away when she was able to contain herself and tucked the letter into the inside pocket of her robe. "Thank you," she said again, this time much more calm.
So, he had expected some sort of excited reaction from Shacklebolt for the letter, but not quite to the degree she displayed. At first, he was nodding and smiling a bit, at her thanks and her obvious gratification for the letter. Though, he really did wonder if she got to reading the full thing properly, because it wasn't exactly an equolent review of bursting butterflies and rainbows.
There was no time to contemplate this, however, as he suddenly found himself in a very Browne-esque bear hug. Except, it was an Evie hug and that was
not something he had expected. More than a bit ruffled, Sabel went stock still for a moment, before cautiously bringing a hand up and patting her shoulder.
"Uhm...your...welcome...." She did realize she was hugging him in front of the entire school right? Ruining his whole 'terrifying-professor' montage. She could....oh there. He was free. And she got a side eye for the hug, before he decided it really didn't matter.
"Don't let me down, Squirt." And with that, he gave her a little elbow nudge. What did his image really matter anymore?

Oh. OH. This must be the recommendation they were promised. ... Whoa. Unlike Evie, Benzi stared at the hand offering him the letter for a bit before he slowly took it, heart thundering as he held it between his fingers. A recommendation letter from Professor Sabel Dakest to the DMLE, telling them they should accept him into their exclusive program.
And they could either choose to hand it in themselves or have Dakest do it. No no, Benzi wanted Dakest to do it. But.. he also wanted a copy for himself. Flicking his wand out of its wrist holster, Benzi quickly muttered his now perfected protean charm, folded up the fake copy and handed the original back to Dakest as he stood. Or, well, he'd wait for Miss Evangeline Shacklebolt to stop hugging him, and then he would.
"Professor, if you could hand it in, I'd be.. really grateful." And now he did smile. "Thank you." You know, for basically everything. For making his two years here worthwhile. For teaching him, for believing in him, for not pestering him to talk when he didn't want to.
So... Yes. Benzi extended his hand out. A thank you handshake was about to happen.
Thankfully, Rider was much more reserved in his reactions. There was no hugs or squealing or any such thing. Very reserved, and it was much appreciated.
Taking the letter from Rider, Sabel nodded.
"I can do that." And then, there was massive impressed points for the offered handshake. With a smile, Sabel took hold of the kid's hand and gave it a firm shake.
"Good work this year."
