Sophie Brown was quite the legend at Hogwarts. Evie knew that before, but this time she felt no envy towards her friend. She was happy for her, but... having so many people look up to you had to be pretty intense. Too much pressure.

Snuggling with Eves nice and warmly, Soph smiled at the cheek kiss and nuzzled against her best friend. Public displays of affection were okay when it was besties cuddling, right? 'cause Sophie Brown didn't care and she was gonna be as affectionate with her dormmate as she wanted to be. It was their LAST NIGHT EVER TOGETHER AT HOGWARTS. There were loads of exceptions to rules on a night like this.

She offered a shrug at Eves' question, though, and murmured softly, "Dunno. S'hard." She sighed in exasperation. "It'll be nice to be going to the same uni as you, so m'not gonna have to miss you, but... s'like... when am I gonna see everyone else, y'know? We're leaving so much behind, which is... good and bad. Some of it is good to leave behind, but..." There was another shrug, then Soph turned her big chestnut eyes up to look at the Head Babe, "How are you?" Seemed to be taking it pretty well, all things considering. Not an ounce of sadness that Soph could detect, but maybe that was attributed to the distractions of Benzi and Damien joining them.

Eves had always been better at concealing and not feeling anyway.

He pushed his glasses up his nose a little bit as he admired the Head Girl. She had probably aced all her NEWTs, too. Wow. Such a student. He had goals now to accomplish per the Head Girl's example.

Ohhhh sweet little Davie, always warming the cockles of Sophie Brown's heart. Was the Head Girl blushing? You bet. His sentiments were very sweet and appreciated, although... his bit about the points made her laugh and shake her head. "Y'say that now, but I bet you'll earn even more points than me in all seven of your years here. You've got a good head on your shoulders, Davie. One of the brightest first years I've ever had the pleasure of knowing." And she'd gotten to know LOTS of first years during her time, so she definitely knew what she was talking about, clearly.

She smiled genuinely and added sincerely, "Thanks, though." For all his kind words and generally for being a good kid. His mum must've been awfully proud of how her son turned out.

Shooting Sophie a rare smile Helena said "Why thank you Sophie. I'm proud of how you've lead the eagles this year. I've now finally understood what your HoH Kitridge and Headmaster Botros saw in you when they first sent you that prefect badge. You're an example for all eagles."

To be fair, Sophie Brown had never been snotty with the Grey Lady unless the ghost provoked her. All those snide comments about her posture and unladylike ways - frankly, the seventh year thought they were rude, and Soph had never been one to stand for someone sticking their nose in where it didn't belong, no matter WHO they were. Sure, the ghost was a legend and an authority figure, and maybe if the ghost was still judgmental and snobby after so many centuries Soph stood no chance at conveying to her just how stuck up she was, but she had always been determined to keep trying. Even... if she'd completely failed, which she had, but at least today the Grey Lady responded well to her attempt at being kind. AND she even got a smile.

This was one for the memory books.

Helena finally understood, though? The ghost's declaration very nearly made her laugh - it was like an insult wrapped up in a compliment, but Sophie bit her tongue and just smiiiiled pleasantly up at the house ghost. The encouragement she was expressing DID outweigh the jab, and since it wasn't any bit of a surprise that the Grey Lady was being snide with her anyway, the fact that she was getting any sort of kindness from the woman spoke volumes. "That's very... unexpected and nice of you to say, Miss Helena." Could she see how surprised she was? "Means a lot coming from you. M'glad y'could finally see the good in me after all this time, even with my unladylike ways. Thank you." Maybe the ghost DID have some redeeming qualities to her. Huh. Who would've thought.

That wasn't her intention and yet it happened. The problem was, if Sophie Brown started to cry, Janelle would almost certainly follow. She wasn't one to cry easily......usually. Today was different though. Janelle's emotions were hiding somewhere just beneath the surface and it wouldn't take much to set them off. So when Janelle saw tears in Sophie's eyes and she hugged her, it was on.

Eyes filling with tears, Janelle looked at Sophie Brown. "Thank you. That's very nice of you to say." When her role model said that she could owl her anytime, Janelle brightened. "You mean it? I will, you know, to see how you are doing. And I promise to work hard because Ravenclaw is coming out on top in the points race. We almost did it this time." Knowing that the Head Girl had lots of other people to say goodbye to, Janelle let her go. "I'm not really good with goodbyes, so I'll say.........until we meet again."

Laughing softly through her tears, Soph nodded, "Of course I mean it. Any day, any time, all right?" As for the points, Soph only chuckled and wiped some more tears from her face. "I have no doubt - Ravenclaw's time is coming, 'specially with you leading the cavalry." Sniffle. "If y'ever need study tips or wanna borrow my 'xtensive notes for OWLs or NEWTs or anything at all - I'm your girl." She kept all of that nonsense filed away in her bag charmed with an undetectable extension charm, just in case she ever needed some brushing up on things. Didn't hurt to be prepared, right?

"Not that you'd need it," she went on, "'cause you're as brilliant as they come. Don't let exams stress y'out too much in the future, 'kay? Trust yourself, 'n trust that y'know the material - y'can only do so much studying, but confidence in yourself 'n your knowledge'll carry you to success." That was what she'd learned. It was one thing to engross oneself completely in studies to do a good job, and it was another thing to prioritize and make time for fun in the midst of hard work. The latter had worked best for Sophie Brown. Good for the health. Care less, play more - a beautiful life mantra.

Ugh, Janelle was trying to kill her, though. Fresh tears welled up in her eyes at the girl's last statement, and Soph swiped her sleeve across her face to mop up the fresh moisture. "S'not goodbye, yeah." Sniffle. "I'll see you again." With a bittersweet smile, she nodded and added, "You'll be great." In all things. In anything Janelle sought to accomplish.

The tawny owl tried not to let that distract him from his task at hand. He had a delivery to make, and so he beat his wings a little harder and searched out the girl person who his letter was meant for.

He swooped down lower, hooting softly to try and it gained him a few glances from the small humans, but not the one he was looking for. She had something coming from hers. But there she was!

"Hoot!"

His landing was less than perfect, knocking over a few goblets and cutlery, but he was on time. Furmy righted himself and held out the leg that held the letter for Sophie, large owl eyes intense on her.

He ignored the looks he was getting from other students unless the wanted to feed him treats.

For you, girl person.

SPOILER!!: letter!

To: Sophie Brown
From: Ira Banner

Sophie Brown,

Recently I have decided to take on an apprentice at Ollivanders, something no one has been worthy of in the past. I am aware that you are finishing school soon and will have more time to focus on important things. As you are an adequate candidate, I have decided to offer you the apprenticeship in question. This will not be simple busy work as with the internship and your holiday work with me, rather you should expect to work hard, learn quickly and we will soon see if you have the true knack for working with wands or if you're just like most of the rest of them out there who fancy themselves worthy of the title Wandmaker.

I expect a prompt reply.

Ira Banner

Botros was giving his speech - it was a little bit weird and made Sophie Brown squint, but hearing that ZANDER ADAIR was one of the top five students for those camps and would get an internship made her WOOP AND HOLLER. "THAT'S MY BOYFRIEND!" was her shout and cheer, and she threw him a BIG OL' GOOFY GRIN over at the Gryffindor table because SHE KNEW IT ALL ALONG. He was SO WORRIED and SO unsure of his future, but things were just FALLING INTO PLACE FOR HIM LEFT AND RIGHT. WOOP WOOP. Now he had this, and he had Flammy's connections, and-- gosh, Zander Adair. What a wonderful life he was living.

When the speech was over, Soph settled into her seat with a dazed sort of smile, proud of the Head Boy for all he'd done, and little Davie nearby got a BIG OL' THUMBS-UP, too. Good on him, the little man. Even BETTER than her most-earned points for Ravenclaw - he was getting SPECIAL RECOGNITION. Too cool, little Truebridge.

...But there was an owl. Swooping into the Great Hall, it caught Soph's attention just as she'd gone to pile potatoes onto her plate to devour, and... it was heading right toward her group at the Ravenclaw table, then... landed quite ungracefully in front of her, knocking over her goblet and staring at her with its beady eyes.

"For me?" Who in Merlin's name would send her mail? At this time? So late in the term? If they'd sent it any later, she wouldn't have even been at Hogwarts, so why was...? Why was it so important that she'd gotten it here? Hum. Curiously, Soph pulled her bag from the floor into her lap, fished around for owl treats, and offered them to the messenger in exchange for the letter, her brows furrowed in a mixture of confusion and... concentration as she immediately tore into the envelope, completely oblivious to the contents of her goblet that were still soaking the tabletop.

...Oh. Sweet. Merlin.

The moment she saw who the sender was, her eyes widened and she leaned toward the letter eagerly, unable to read the words quickly enough for her liking. IRA BANNER. APPRENTICE. OLLIVANDERS. NO ONE ELSE WORTHY. ADEQUATE CANDIDATE. OFFER. PROMPT REPLY.

"YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!" SHE EXPLODED UP ONTO HER FEET AND OUT INTO THE AISLE SHE WENT, JUMPING AROUND AND SHRILLY SQUEALING AND BEAMING LIKE SHE'D JUST WON A MILLION GALLEONS. "YES YES YES YES YEEEEEEEEEES FINALLY!!!!" SHE'D DONE IT. IRA BANNER WANTED HER. HE WANTED TO TRAIN HER TO BE HER WANDMAKER. SHE WAS GOING TO WORK AT OLLIVANDERS AND HER DREAM WAS ACTUALLY REALLY TRULY COMING TRUE!!!!!!!!!

There were tears blurring her vision - finally happy ones - but it didn't stop her from suddenly bolting toward the staff table, her cheeks alight with jovial color to accompany the smile that wasn't leaving her face any time soon.

Nothing to see here, kids.
