“Honey where’s Jacob?” Ginger Fleming asked as she stepped into the dining room to see Bambi decorating the table quietly.

“His parents really wanted him home for Christmas,” Bambi lied, avoiding her mum’s gaze.

“Bambi, Jacob’s family doesn’t celebrate Christmas.”

Oops.

“You want to tell me what this is about?”

Bambi put down the ornaments. “I changed my mind. I don’t want… I don’t want him to break my heart again.”

Ginger sighed and moved to wrap her arms around her daughter. “I love you, sweetie. We’ll have Christmas just the three of us”

Bambi nodded and hugged her back.
