Errrrr.... Right. Most books were. Zander had to disagree with that one, knowing quite well that some books were just plain pointless. Like the Runes textbook. That was hardly informative 'cause there was just so much going on. How was anyone supposed to learn anything from it when there were SO MANY words? Not informative. Just a nap waiting to happen. In Zander's humble opinion, anyway.
Though the next bit, he was not expecting. Um.
The Gryffindor quite nearly choked again "Uh.... Thanks Professor," but uh no thanks, "Erm... I think I'll have to pass." He gave the book a gently nudge back in Dakest's direction. Ahem. "I'm sure it's a fascinating read," doubtful, "but I just haven't got much time to read, since I've got to study for exams and all that." Nod, nod, nod.
It's not you, Sir. It's him.
Well, essentially.
"Speaking of which.... I guess I should probably go do that," oh but wait there was one last thing. "I just wanted to say thanks for... y'know Stuff. "I guess you're not as bad as I thought you were." That was good enough, right? "Oh and uh, I'm sorry for being such a jerk to you." There, he did it. He did it. HE DID IT, OKAY?
Mission success.
Sort of.
Sabel eyed the kid. Hardcore. What was
with his vocal abilities today? Merlin it was just a book. It
didn't bite. He would have known. And Zander
did know his alphabet, didn't he? He couldn't imagine the kid would have got this far without being able to read.
Shrugging, Sabel collected the book back to himself. Exams, right. That was what the pauses and 'uhs' and 'erms' were all about. Of course. How silly of him. [b]"I suppose those are coming up soon. Let me know if you have anything you want clarified before them."[b]
May as well offer and try to be helpful, right? After all, it
was in his job description.
What was this now? Thanks for......not being as bad as the kid thought he was? Sabel sort of blinked for a few seconds, processing exactly what he was hearing. For a moment, he thought about taking the high road, telling the boy that it was fine, that everyone made judgements and there was no harm done. On the other hand, there was this part of him that was Gryffindor, and well, it hadn't quite learned how to control itself.
A sly smile worked its way onto his expression, and as soon as it had done so, Sabel decided he just couldn't help himself.
"Oh, but I really think I am."
And the grin he gave, well, it would have scared
him out of the office if he had been about fifteen years younger.
