Benny was only vaguely listening to what was going on around him, caught up in the nervousness of the situation. Botros seemed surprised, Moxley upset and the groundskeeper was continuing to explain things. As were Henric and Adi. But he couldn't help think it was all for naught. That this was to be the drama of the term since things had been going so well. So out of it, the Gryffindor was surprised by the touch at his hand, registering it more fully as Adi linked their smallest fingers.
Could the Hufflepuff feel his shaking though the minor link?
And then the headmaster was speaking again yet it was only when the questions were suddenly pointed at him that Benny's full attention was there. The seventh year unconsciously taking a half-step back, wishing to shrink at the attention, swallowing nervously as he tried to find his voice. "The yelling only happened right before the surprise of the punch. I didn't have time to do anything before Mr. McLeod's own shield kept me from stepping between them to stop it."
What was he expected to do? Adi and he were really close but he wasn't a Legilimens. He couldn't read his boyfriend's mind.
"And I had attempted to calm them earlier, " he added as almost an afterthought. That's why he had been right next to the two, not with Ilia. If only he had been better at it. Then they wouldn't be here.
