Ready for Cutty to pull off some crazy defense tactic and get out of the bind Benzi had put him in, he was completely alert and therefore utterly surprised when his offense maneuver actually worked. The snake had thwacked him across the face - which, by the way, would be a beautiful visual in Benzi's mind when his head space allowed him to appreciate the absurdity of it - and then his usually very sharp friend began acting not so sharply at all. Perfect.

The jelly fingers curse had already left his lips when Cutty blew a raspberry at him. Ignoring it completely, Benzi followed up his jinx with an "Expelliarmus Pesequoris", adding the homing spell just in case his not quite right in the head opponent decided to cartwheel around the hall or something similar.
