Failing hadn't been as imposing an idea before, because he hadn't been trying... but now, now it was all on him.
And he was going to have a hell of a time with it, wasn't he?
A couple of things struck him immediately. That Curse Breaking was a) intricate and b) the MOST difficult... of all rune magic. It made him nervous. Anxious. But oddly determined.
He nodded to show he was listening, his brain working overtime to follow the thread of information without getting lost. Magical energy awakens theirs? The runes? Or ones own magic? The former sounded most credible to him at the minute, but he wasn't by any means ruling out the latter. Perhaps they were both correct? "So our magical energy... activates runes, like, magic manifests in runes because of us? So we can use runes to break curses as well as create them? Or change them? Strengthen or weaken them?" Was that it? He was doing his best to follow, whether or not he was on the right track was yet to be determined, but he knew there was more to runes than what he'd learned in his young four years here. "Sir... does it also include things like blood magic?" Was that what he meant also by the whole 'our magic awakens theirs'? That form of magic in line with runes to create something MORE complex than either. The Gryffindor was on the right track. "Yes. That is why when a muggle finds a runic text, nothing happens. It's just an ancient transcript to them. When a wizard finds a runic carving, it can glow or talk to him. Inside." He pointed to his head. "Runes are used for curses heavily, especially in the ancient Egyptian time. Creating and breaking, yes." Blood magic, yes. Botros was already impressed with Zeke's enthusiasm to learn more and link what he knew with what Ab was telling him.
"Blood magic is a very powerful means. It is why Runes are sort of activated when a wizard is near or in contact with them. With blood magic, runes can be very dangerous." It was why he dropped this segment of this science in school. Kids didn't have to have ideas of how powerful one could get with little help from blood magic. That was something for when they were more mature and able to assess right and wrong. "I see you're very interested in this subject, is there a reason you're asking, son? Other than your desire to study Curse-Breaking?" Hmm? Text Cut: Firsties Quote:

Plus the portrait of her had a creepy lifelike quality to it...
Luckily, he was prepared to deal with the ghosts of Hogwarts Heads past. As soon as they reached the door to the Headmaster's office, Davie peeked in, looked around the corners, and then cast, "Obscuro!" on the portrait of the most recent Head, Anastasia Truebridge. As she (or, rather, her portrait) gasped loudly in protest, Davie also hurriedly cast the same spell on Genny's dad's portrait, because he KNEW HIM and he didn't want to get caught, and then also on Cassandra Rae, the President of the Board of Governors. ALL these people knew his mum and therefore knew him by association and/or they WERE his mum. So. He was just protecting himself and his bestie.
Now that they were inside properly, Davie pressed his finger to his lips and started tiptoing around to check out stuff. "HEY," he whispered excitedly to Char, "we should look for that pensieve from DADA while we're here!" If it wasn't Dakest's, then it HAD to be Botros'. Davie was sure of it. Quote:

She asked curiously in her fake voice. That COULD be fun, but they had to speak with the hat first and have it actually fix things since it had sorted her wrong and all.
..... and there were a LOT of interesting things to catch her attention in here. A LOT. But priorities involved the HAT. She wasn't here to be a snoop (at least that wasn't the intention).
So where was the hat? Botros saw the Stone Gargoyle close the minute he stepped into his corridor. He had a visitor, must be a professor who knew his new password. He hurried (as much as someone his age could hurry) up the spiral staircase until he saw two little kids close the office's door behind them.
....
Suspiciously, he approached the door and traced a circle on his door that he could take a peek at what they could be doing inside without him there.

She had been trying to place her cheery color around everywhere lately.
Her thoughts distracted as she heard a man's voice coming from above her. Looking up she noticed Ab, "Oh hello! I hope I'm not interrupting." She didn't want to bother, but she did have a few things she needed to discuss with him. Botros looked down from where he stood comfortable on the floating ladder. "Hi, no, not at all. Just looking for something. I'll be down in a second," he called out before taking out his wand and guiding the ladder back down to the floor. It lied horizontally for him to step out and on the stony surface.
"Take a seat, please. How're you doing? Can I help you with something?" He walked briskly to sit on his big armchair by the fireplace (that was still working in the spring making the office possibly too hot for everyone else). |
