Except.... Every now and then Zander Adair was wrong. And this was one of those times. And that was precisely why he found himself walking into the waiting room just outside Professor D's office.
Zander Adair was wrong. And here he was.
Stepping forward, the Gryffindor knocked gently on the door. Normally he opted for one of them 'knocking three times like I know what I'm doing' knocks. But he was wrong and that 'caused for a light knock. One that said 'I don't really want to be here, but I owe you something' more than 'I know what I'm doing'.
The thing about being a Professor, was that although he was often in his office, he couldn't
always be there. Though, at the same time, it was almost expected that he was always there. There seemed to often be a knock, or a note, or
something needing his attention at his door.
So trips away were often short lived, and if they were longer, they were noted by a parchment that contained his likely whereabouts and time of return. Today, he'd had no opportunity to put such a thing on his door, which meant that his brief excursion had to be a short one.
It wasn't a surprise then, to find a student waiting for him when he returned, the guilty pleasure of a cranberry scone in one hand and a fresh coffee in the other. Sometimes, the elves made the drink just that much better than he ever could. And it was nice every now and then to go visit them.
What was surprising about the student at his door, was that it was Adair. It wasn't often he saw the kid outside of class, and was less often they really spoke one on one. Curious.
"Mr. Adair." Merlin the kid looked like a mind at war with himself.
"How can I help you?"
