The suggestion was gentle enough, but firm. No, he didn't mean the someone that was currently missing from class. Head boy duties and all. Come Mr. Adair. Yes, he was still waiting for Sophie Brown to walk back into class. He knew she would. She never skipped class. She-- Which is why he was so concerned, actually. She never skipped class. She loved DADA and Professor Dakest's lessons. The only time he could recall her running out like that was during the patronus lesson last term and that was because she was really REALLY hurt. So of course he was nervous. His gaze hadn't left the door.
And clearly that didn't go unnoticed. Because he was being called out for it. "Er, I was actually gonna partner with Soph so she didn't come back without one," that sounded logical, right? SPOILER!!: Sophie and Dakest Quote:

And she was very, very deliberately avoiding Dakest's gaze.
"Ready to do the thing?" The... homing thing? The activity? Whatever Dakest had wanted them to do that Soph no longer recalled the details of anymore, nor did she seem to care? Whatever it was?
All that mattered was getting through the class without anyone getting on her case so she could leave with Zander at the end and not get them penalized for leaving class. One thing at a time. Quote:

Seeing that the pensive was clear for the moment, Sabel walked over to where she had set her bag down and picked it right back up again. Then he was at her side, putting bag back in her hands. His voice was kept low, so not to cause a scene, but there was no question or room for arguing. "Brown. You are dismissed from class."
He wouldn't say baring no penalty, he wouldn't say why or why not, he wouldn't let her argue. If anyone overheard, it would be as if he was punishing her for taking a mirror call during his class. No other reason. He watched her closely. "You may take Adair with you if you like." This last bit, however, was said in a purely confidential volume. The longer she was gone for, the more worried Zander grew. What was taking so long? Why was her mother calling her in the middle of a lesson??? Zander had met the woman before and Mrs. Brown was a very intelligent person... This definitely wasn't on accident.
That's it. He was leaving. He was gonna go after her.
But before he could do just that, the Head Girl was making her way back in? And... Zander didn't have a trained eye, but he did know something was wrong. Almost immediately. The same enthusiasm that she had every DADA lesson was missing. She was holding her gaze to the ground. Her face was paler than usual. Something was wrong. "We don't have to--" Um. Seeing Dakest walk up behind him, the Gryffindor quickly let his sentence trail off. Heh. Hi Professor. Definitely not gonna tell Sophie Brown that maybe they could just skip the activity all together. NOPE. He was being a model student. YUP. Not doing anything fishy of any-- What?
Dakest could tell too.
Zander had probably never appreciated the guy more. And here he was thinking that Sabel Dakest was just another old grumpy, Professor. The man was kind of brilliant... And Zander finally saw that. He only looked over at Dakest, giving the man a very thankful, humble nod at the last sentiment before turning back to Sophie.
It was her move. Was she going to listen? He wasn't sure. But he was sticking with her. That he was sure of. Something wasn't right.
