If Char was being honest, she was a LITTLE BIT PUT OUT that there were other girls here too, even if they were her friends (except that big girl because she didn't really know her). It was just that she was SUPPOSED TO BE the special one, because Davie was HER best friend. HERS.
She DID beam at Davie when he said she looked so pretty (and Ellery but HER BEST FRIEND so she was claiming the majority of that compliment too ok). AND she smiled at Olly but ALSO Char was sort of silently side eyeing that bigger girl.

IT WAS TOO MUCH because ALSO she had to think about OTHER things (GROWN UP THINGS) like the fact that Blaise had got her a valentine and not said anything about it, and that she was PRETTY SURE ROONEY DIDN'T KNOW she was the one that sent him that secret Santa, but also did Roo hate Blaise because that whole thing in dueling club where he smacked Blaise's hand away was VERY CONFUSING and also why was he giving Olly weird looks?
AND TO TOP IT OFF Davie was paying A LOT OF ATTENTION to everyone else and not enough to her and nobody was calling HER princess and it was DEFINITELY ALL TOO MUCH and she didn't know WHY she felt all funny and not herself at ALL and... and....
Charlotte's lip wibbled slightly and she stayed unnaturally (for her) quiet. Instead of saying anything, she opened the little carry case she had with her and took out a couple of her snails.
At least THEY snoved (snail loved) her best!
