"I don't want to break your heart, Miss Sophie Brown." That much was true. The truest of true. Actually, it was possibly the truest thing he had ever thought, said or believed. Because a broken hearted Miss Sophie Brown was... well, it broke his heart.
And Rooney Bronwyn had seen broken-hearted before. It was HORRIBLE.
Especially when people cried like Aunt Elodie did. Her crying faces were...something else. Ghoulish, if you will. Putting his tea cup down, Roo placed his palms onto the table between them and took a deep breath. "I need your help with telling a girl that isn't you, that I think I like her. -- Well, I think that I like her, I'm not sure if she likes me too. But.. well, I just... Do you think you could read something and tell me if she likes me?" Yes, he had that letter in his back pocket.
As always. Break... her... heart?
What?
Her brows furrowing briefly in confusion, an amused sort of smile played upon her lips and her head cocked slightly to the side. "You could never break my heart, Roo," she reassured him delicately, the amusement threatening to seep through into her tone, but she tried to take him very, very seriously, and nodded for him to press onward as she poured herself some more imaginary tea.
And what he said next made her smile broaden, and giggles bubbled in her throat. A GIRL THAT WASN'T HER. Did he think she'd think that it WOULD be her? Or was he just being polite, anticipating that she might get her hopes up, so knocking down the thought before it could ever really occur to her? Hiiiilarious, but Soph only giggled slightly, shaking her head in amusement and offering a hand to accept the letter. "Of course I will. I'm a girl, I'm well-versed in the art of deciphering my own species' language of love." 'Species' being a term used lightly and in good humor, of course, and she further encouraged him, "I'd be happy to."
Cute lil man with his cute lil crush.
