She nodded. And now she had to save him by coming up with a good cover story. "I could say you said 'Merry Christmas' and then winked. It kind of implies that you're a present or whatever. You know? It's pretty smooth."

And probably something that nobody would believe. But whatever. You did what you could for friends.
