This date with Maggie, their first official date, was going to be great even if he was doomed to fail in the art of 'wooing'. Why had he even suggested such a thing to begin with? Of course, he knew WHY. The aim had been to impress her with his intentions, but he hadn't considered how it would play out. HOW exactly was one wooed?
The walk to the village had been a nice one and somehow he was content with just having done that much. His smile cracked into a wide grin as Maggie squeezed his arm, and he couldn't help but pause to admire her more. She wore a dress. A red dress. From what Kaycee had told him, these were good things. Good signs, or omens, or whatever, it was good, and nice... it was hot. Taking her hand in his Zeke returned the squeeze.
He had been debating about the location of their date for some time, but really, as far as he could tell, there was only one real option. He blamed Hogsmeade for this.
Of course, this was the test. The first step to failure OR perhaps a first step to a miraculous pass. "I was thinking Madame Puddifoots," he informed, watching her closely for a reaction. "It's the only... nice place here, really." So unless she wanted a picnic out in the street or up on the hill, or a cosy booth in the Three Broomsticks, this was her option. She deserved nice, so he could deal with the doilies and flowers and hearts and whatever was to be expected from the girly tea house place.
It was cliche though, like, everybody did it. So in that sense it wasn't special... he only hoped the time they would share together would be. As exciting as all of this was, it really didn't distract her enough for her not to feel the cold. She was never going to get used to these winters, was she? While her jacket, scarf and boots – as well as Zeke next to her – were mostly keeping her warm, Maggie was currently starting to regret that she hadn't worn anything to cover her ears. But then again she hadn't wanted to ruin her hair by wearing a-
Earmuffs. Why had she not worn those??? Like, they wouldn't have ruined her hair!
Maggie clearly hadn't been too focused on wearing a proper winter outfit this morning. Oh well. Next time. They would hopefully be heading inside anyway. Right? He didn't have an outdoor picnic planned or something, right? Or anything else that required them to be outside for longer than necessary.
Puddifoots!
Grinning over to him, Maggie nodded in approval. "Sounds good." Yes, it might have been the obvious choice and not as creative as other people's thank you Dima for your input there but it was definitely what SHE would have picked too. So, well done, Zeke. She liked that place and seeing as there really wasn't anywhere else TO go in Hogsmeade – aside from the Three Broomsticks but like, that wasn't really the right place for a date in her opinion – Maggie was perfectly content going to Madam Puddifoot's.
She returned the hand squeeze but shifted slightly so she was holding onto his arm with her other hand too. For warmth. "I can't wait for summer." Or spring first. Although she'd come to realize that spring wasn't really that much better than winter here. Unless you were lucky and got a few sunny days. |
