Okay, so, good news: being a new kid wasn't all that bad so far. Maxon was surviving. He hadn't, however, thought to ration his secret stash of donuts, and that dawned on him as he plopped down on a bench in the courtyard with his bag on his shoulder and a now-empty box of donuts in his hand. DANG IT. Pouting and setting the empty (and honestly, depressing) box aside, he dug through his bag and pulled out some parchment, ink, and a quill. He had to write home right now! This instant! IMMEDIATELY! and beg his mother to send him more donuts. Did Hogwarts have donuts? He didn't think so. He hadn't thought to look for them at breakfast. But even if they did, he doubted they'd be as yummy as the donuts from the bakery back home. He went about working on his letter.

Hey Mom,
School's going well. I must say, Hogwarts is pretty cool. I only have two complaints. One, WHY are there so many cats here?! I feel the urge to sneeze every time I see one, and that is approximately every two-point-seven seconds. Two, WHY is this place so far from the donut shop? I might've eaten all the ones you gave me to bring along, so will you please, please, PLEASE send me another box? Or two? Or seven? I'm a growing boy, after all... I need my donuts!
Maxon rubbed the feathery tip of his quill across his chin as he thought of what to say next.

So how's your new job going? I hope you like it... I also hope you aren't too lonely without me there. I've made a new friend... Her name is Hady. She's... Pretty. And amazing. She's pretty amazing. I hope you're making new friends, too. I miss you, Mom. A lot. Don't forget to take time out from work to eat. Don't overwork yourself. Get lots of sleep. Write me back soon, okay? And if you feel the need to attach donuts to your letter... I will be VERY happy. :-D
I love you.

Maxon read over his letter, biting his bottom lip as he did so. Man, he really missed his mom, and hoped she was taking care of herself in his absence.
