Strangely, he found he could only hold her gaze for a minute, before having to look elsewhere. The floor specifically.

His brows scrunched up as he forced any mental imagry out of his head. Wasn't trying to hurt him. Rhydian mulled the words around his emotions, around what he had been trying to sort out in his head. Finally, he nodded. Slowly, but it was a nod. "I know that."

Truthfully and honestly, he did. Didn't really change the fact that it had hurt. His eyes went back up to her, and he was slightly surprised to find a sincere smile on his lips, as faint as it was. "You're a free spirit." He shrugged. "It's one of the things I like about you."

Too soon? Hopefully not.

That wouldn't be any good. Confirming was one thing, but she needed him to look at her, really look at her and understand what she was saying because she didn't want any further communication gaps between them and she wanted this taken care of. It was a relief to know he knew that much. It wasn't an accident....but it wasn't a malicious act either.

Just when he sounded like he was really getting to the meat of the matter, he went and brought up the reason she'd left her apartment so fast that day. Alexa Cambridge did not abandon chocolate; it spoke to just how serious this was.

Another silence fell between them but her gaze remained fixed. She'd had words prepared vaguely but they were all gone now, forcing her to think up new ones.

The problem with moving forward was just how far she was thrown off by his last sentence. It just brought her right back to that. In the end she chose to pretend he hadn't said it, focusing instead on what he'd said about being a free spirit. "Right. Exactly and I like being that way. When I said I didn't do titles or commitment...I wasn't trying to be difficult." Lots of people thought that was the case for some reason or another. "It's just...real confining and that's not how I work." Even 'loose titles' were confining if his reaction was anything to go off of.

There had been some expectations, that was clear enough now; expectations she hadn't been aware of.
