Now that they had a tree, they could all add the things they liked and it would be the BEST TREE EVER because THEY were the BEST TEAM EVER.

Heh.

"Let's do it!" he exclaimed energetically, and brought out his wand as he still deliberately stood between Sophie and Zander. Hehehehe. With Norah between them from the other way around, it was impossible for them to hold hands right now. He was so clever!

"So, tinsel we sa -" NEVER MIND, Sophie and Zander had letters! "What do they say?" The way he looked, he was clearly ready to snatch the letters if they didn't tell him; because they were all past the 'privacy' stages of their relationship.

With a big grin, Norah picked up a pile of tinsel and held it in their direction. "C'mon c'mon c'mon. Let's GO!" The tree weren't just gonna decorate itself, y'know. She looked expectantly at all three of them, elevated slightly onto the toes of her bunny slippers just in case they weren't taking her seriously yet.

A moment later, though, all the tinsel was dropped on Zander's feet (they could use some sparkle, okay?) on account of something EVEN MORE exciting coming along. She turned quickly to pick up the letter, opening the envelope with a wonderful ripping noise which she never usually let herself make because ripping paper was just mean. Those had been trees too, at one point. Professor Culloden was far too interested in Sophie and Zander's letters, so she leaned over her own aaaaaaall secretively even though it barely said anything at all. That'd show him. She was interesting TOO. Even if she couldn't tell who'd written the letter. Norah read the letter through nearly three times before losing interest and letting her eyes wander to one of the big christmas trees overhead. Was that MISTLETOE? She took an instinctive step away from it, so she was in front of Culloden now. Um. Alert? ALERT? There was a tradition that need to be fulfilled here and there was a 0% chance that she was going to be the one fulfilling it in this case. Nope. Nuh uh. That was Zander and Sophie's job, at least today. The only problem was Culloden was standing in such a bad place that it was almost like he'd done it on purpose.

She looked from the 'head couple' to Culloden and to the mistletoe before coming to a decision and stepping forward so she and the Professor were right next to each other. Distraction time. Oh yeah. Before he could move, she gave her hand a big smooch and reached up to plant her palm right on Culloden's nose. "Happy Christmas!" Norah wasn't entirely sure if it was to distract him enough for Zander and Sophie to do what they had to do, or because she was afraid he'd curse her ears into turnips, but a second later she was running to the other side of their tree. "Don't ya want to see what's in MY letter? It's got all the best secrets in there." She poked her head out from behind the branches and gave him a big smile. Innocent. Tooooooootally innocent.

Soph and Zander could spend time being cute any time, basically, but at least they were getting to still spend time TOGETHER. She hadn't gone home from Christmas, so it could've been worse - Zander could've stayed behind while she DID go home. Them being separated by Culloden while still decorating a tree together was way better than being miles and miles apart.

As they neared their tree, Soph smiled at it in all its glory, surveying it up and down - and when she looked down, she noted a few of the names on the nearby presents, some for her friends, some for acquaintances...

And one with her name on it.

Curiously, Soph picked it up and read the label - from... Rooney? She looked around the room for the boy, her shiny eyes landing on him a few trees over, and she opened her mouth to get his attention with a grin, when--

...Oh? Her Secret Santa letter? Soph gave the owl an apprehensive smile before accepting the letter from it, then cautiously opened the envelope. Honestly, she was a little nervous about this because... more and more it felt like her peers were disliking her more and more as time went on, so she was anticipating this opportunity for someone to be "anonymous" to... turn out quite badly.

Interestingly enough, it wasn't COMPLETELY bad... but Merlin, what was with the person telling her to not let them tell her she wasn't awesome? Wasn't that... kind of... a weird sort of insult? Weren't they implying that they WOULD normally tell her she wasn't awesome, but they were just being nice and encouraging now because they were supposed to?

Well. Ahem. That was... kind of... nice. Of them. To... not completely insult her, she guessed. Still, the slight deflation of the letter must've shown in her expression, and Soph took her wand and vanished the letter on the spot.

She didn't need to keep it.

She had vanished her letter just as Culloden asked what it said, and Soph forced a smile, offered a shrug, and dug her hands into her pockets. "Nothing." Irrelevant, really, but she did look over at Zander to see if he was going to talk about his letter--

Text Cut: MISTLETOE AND NORAH

Soph caught Norah's eye and gave her a quizzical look, but followed her gaze upward... to MISTLETOE.

MISTLETOE.

Grinning deviously at Norah, Soph shot a look over at Zander to see if he noticed, and the moment the Hufflepuff prefect KISSED HER HAND AND PRESSED IT TO CULLODEN'S NOSE - SWEET MERLIN - Soph ducked behind Culloden and tried to steal a quick kiss from Zander. COME ON, HEAD BOY, MISTLETOE TIME.

Well he supposed it could’ve been worse.

Except was he really spending his Christmas decorating a tree with his Potions Professor? Unlike Sophie Brown, Zander Adair did not enjoy spending time with his Professors outside of class, thank you very much. Especially not Professor Culloden who seemed to have some sort of vendetta against him. Definitely not how Zander imagined the day going.

But he’d have to make it work. Because there’s no way he was going to be grumpy on Christmas. It was CHRISTMAS after all. But still. Really Professor? Of all the times you choose to get in the way, now has to be one of them?

He did notice the owl swooping by though. He watched as Sophie Brown opened her letter… And then vanished it? He attempted to give her a questioning look, but it was probably blocked by Professor Culloden’s large body. COULD HE NOT STAND IN THE WAY? Thanks.

And okay, could they talk about his shoes for a minute? There were sparkles all over his feet. Merlin, the things he stood for when it came to Sophie Brown. She better be appreciative, okay? He didn’t just let his feet get bedazzled and hang out with a Professor for just anyone, okay? This was what the spirit of Christmas was all about. And y’know what? You’re welcome. He’d better be getting an extra good snog for this later, sweet Merlin.

Wait. He took it back.

Bless Norah Kittridge and her Hufflepuff soul.

She had created the perfect distraction for the mistletoe. Which only meant one thing, IT REALLY WAS A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!! And here he was thinking Professor Culloden would be keeping them apart the entire evening. Ha. Man. Norah was great. He could just about kiss her for being so fantastic. Except he wasn’t going to kiss Norah, no offense or anything, he was going to kiss his GIRLFRIEND.

And they couldn’t even get in trouble for it, right? Because there was a mistletoe and not doing anything about it would be a shame. MAN, ZANDER LOVED CHRISTMAS.

HEH.

So of course he took the opportunity to duck his head behind Culloden as well so that he could actually KISS his GIRLFRIEND aka HEAD GIRL aka SOPHIE BROWN.

Yes, what a fine Christmas it was. Even though he had to hang out with a Professor.

What a time to be alive. Mistletoes rock. And so do kisses. Leaning forward, he quickly kissed Soph so that Culloden wouldn’t have a chance to yell at him beforehand. Then slowly drawing away, he grinned from ear-to-ear, ”Merry Christmas,” And now he was properly feeling spirited enough to decorate this tree.
