Hogwarts RPG Name: Amur Neverwinter Fourth Year | Official End of Class :) ~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~ SPOILER!!: Evie Quote:

The biggest thing that piqued her curiosity was when he said he wasn't allowed to use the skills he learned in Auror training for them at Hogwarts. Evie was smart and understood why. She didn't know what his training had involved... but she wanted to know and she wanted to learn. Evie was going to be an Auror one day; sooner than later, she hoped and she wanted to be the absolute best when she joined the YATI next year. She wanted to know everything Dakest knew.
So, yes, she did have one question. But she would ask him later, in private.
Listening to Dakest answer all the questions, her ears seemed to perk up when the professor asked to see Benzi after the meeting. Evie exchanged glances between her boyfriend and the professor, curious and jealous and wondering what in the world he would speak to Benzi about and if she could get away with eavesdropping. "What's that for?" she whispered almost silently to Benzi. Had he any idea? Was HE going to get special training? What about her?
It was the whisper of indiscernible words that caught Sabel's attention, bringing it back to Rider and the young woman at his side. It took a bit of squinting to see exactly who it was that was beside the kid, and when Sabel recognized her, his eyebrow went up. He didn't miss the hand-holding, as brief as it was. It was too curious a thing to miss.
But good. He had hoped to see Shacklebolt here. Might as well kill two birds with one stone. "Shacklebolt, if you could stick around as well." SPOILER!!: Yoongi Quote:
Originally Posted by DuckyLinJi Listening intently at everything that was being said, Yoongi thought that the whole idea of an tournament was pretty awesome. Though he doubted he would get very far. Maybe it was time to practise his spells nonverbally more often. Because everyone knew that people who could do nonverbal spells had an advantaged. That was why the Gryffindor looked next to him at Adi. The Prefect was pretty good at nonverbal spells, he would be an interesting opponent.
With a grin, Yoongi faced the Professor again when he was being talked to and that grin dissapeared in a second. "Opponent?" he said in a way more higher voice than usual."uhm no need to think that Sir haha!".......wait...the man was right. People did laugh when they got nervous. The Gryffindor stopped laughing and cleared his throat.
Yeah he knew they didnt wear helmets everyday. That would be really weird fashion trend... but he had seen muggle fights on tv and sometimes they wore helmets. Maybe it was better to not have though. He would learn so many spells to protect his precious face.
As the Professor went back to holding his hands behind his back and rocking on his heels, which seemed to be a signature move of him, Yoongi's hand shot up in the air again and waved it around a bit. "Ooooh Sir! Another question...sorry if they're annoying... but that ministry training you mentioned earlier? I'm really curious to know what happens at a training like that that the school forbids to teach...is it like, practising under an unforgivable curse or something?" He leaned a bit closer to the person nearest him and muttered silently "a candy bet saying he's going to say that information is classified" But he was curious and he would bet his hairspray that he wasnt the only one. "Also!" also also! "Will we be learning to defend ourselves like muggles as well?" though he wouldnt know how one could block a spell without a wand....wandless magic? Merlins Beard that would be so cool!
Hyland got a knowing grin-smirk from Sabel as he stuttered through a decline of a possible duel and cut off his own laughter. Point made, and well received. Good. The kid would go far, learning so quickly.
And asking so many questions. The young man seemed to be full of them today, and every other day their paths crossed. Sabel found himself idly wondering if he had ever inquired into Hyland's career choices. Likely not Auror. It would take it's toll on the hair too quickly. "Well, for starters there are no permission forms. No armor. And a guarantee of injury." Something that he desperately wanted to avoid here at Hogwarts. As quickly as one could learn from a hard hit that left a mark, he didn't need parents or the Board of Govenors breathing down their necks. And he preferred to keep all students rather guilt free and out of the hospital wing. "Some of the spells and scenarios we were exposed to are also in-feasible here. Due to either technicality or difficulty, or morality. Don't imagine many of you would show up if a knee-reversal hex was a possible tactic in this club." Didn't imagine any of the parents would sign the waiver either. "No unforgivables though. No matter the training, we did not, and do not, train to become the very thing we are fighting. That goes for this club. Train, develop yourselves and advance yourselves. But do not do it at a cost of your own good. There are lines we should not cross, not even consider crossing. What you practice here, will hold as habit in the real world. So choose carefully." Easier said than done. Easier broken than not, in the right - or rather wrong - circumstances.
The next question got a side-smile from him. "You are most indeed encouraged and welcome to use muggle means. However, as the point of this tournament is magic based, your options to use these methods will be limited. There are a certain number of points allotted for muggle maneuvers, so choose wisely." SPOILER!!: Daxton Quote:
Originally Posted by Felixir Oh. So did that mean that the initial comment had been addressed to Daxton after all? He still was not entirely sure, but the now direct instruction was impossible to miss. Not that that made it any easier to accept, of course.
For a moment, Daxton did nothing, only cast his eyes about the room, or more specifically at the feet of everyone else assembled. But then he did as had been requested, reluctantly pulling on first his socks, then his shoes, all the while listening to the ongoing lecture. He took his sweet time, too, because they just felt wrong, and then they felt even, and then even more wrong and uncomfortable, and several times Daxton felt the urge to untie and retie the laces. More reasons to never wear shoes.
Dakest had a lot to say, it seemed, and by the time Daxton looked back up, shifting his feet inside his shoes in an attempt to make them more comfortable, he was still going strong with the information. Luckily, the Ravenclaw's memory was basically perfect, and though it did not look as though he had been very focused throughout the shoe debacle, he absolutely had been. It was all holding his attention very well.
He considered everything, watching Dakest closely very closely, scrutinising him as his expression morphed into a thoughtful frown. Daxton likely would not have looked away at all were it not for the fact that one of the older students, Hyland, his name was, asked a question that caught Daxton's interest: the question regarding non-magical methods of defence.
The first year looked across at the Gryffindor student for a moment, before his gaze invariably found Daxton again, and he waited for an answer. He had still not managed to cast a single official spell whilst at school, thanks to his limited (or, at the moment, non-existent) verbal capabilities, but normal methods of defence would not require that at all. Normal methods of defence would be quite beneficial, at least until Daxton could cast spells of his own, verbally or non-verbally. And he had been trying.
Did he even dare to hope that the Duelling Club would allow for something like that?
Well, no. Daxton Prince did not 'hope'. But he could be curious.
Well, it seemed that Prince could get the memo if it was more directly directed. Which, was fair enough on it's own. The instructions had been somewhat vague, if one wished to consider them vague. A mental note was made and filed away with all the other mental notes about curious student habits and tendencies.
The forward-lean and look towards Hyland at the boy's question didn't go unnoticed. Perhaps it was a good time then, to extrapolate a bit more? "Keep in mind that close combat between wizards is much more dangerous than any hand-to-hand combat. There is never any way to know if the wizard you engage has another wand, or weapon, hidden up their sleeves or in their boots. Proximity can win or loose you a duel. So bide your timing well and with care." SPOILER!!: Henric Quote:

Okay...maybe it was just him. So there were provided with their very own dueling outfits as well. Neat! He wondered what sort of activity challenges they had to do too. One thing for sure, Henric couldn't wait to start!
Turning slightly, Sabel caught sight of Henric among the ranks. The young man got a considering look. "Some of the challenges may afford additional points to your ability to use muggle means, or the points of your health or magic. Some, but not all. Remember, these challenges and assignments are for your overall benifit. That, is an award in and of itself." SPOILER!!: Candice Quote:

And then the man explained about everything they need to know about dueling. How it works and such. Candice raised her hand in the air. Over here, Sir! "Sir, how we do that? Challenge someone to a duel I mean. Do we need to send them duel invitation by owl? Or just go to the person and say that 'I challenge you to a duel?" He did say that they could challenge other students. "And can we refuse if someone challenge us to a duel?" Not that she's planning to do that. She never back down from a challenge. She just being curious here.
A waving hand in the air caught his attention, pulling his gaze over. He nearly laughed too, and fought momentarily to school his expression. "You may be as formal, or informal as you like. That is barring a punch to the face or any such strange way of starting things. Remember, this is to learn and practice, so challenges should be done with some decorum of respect for either party."
A slow nod left him. "You bring up a good point. If you are challenged to a practice duel, you do not have to accept. The tournament duels that you will be assigned to, however, you are expected to show up to and take part in. Extenuating circumstances will be considered carefully." SPOILER!!: Charlotte Quote:

She was already EYEING people up. TOTAL EYEING. Because she was gonna DUEL THEM ALL! EVERYONE! In her efforts to become the best, even though she wanted to WIN, she didn't in the slightest mind losing, because you'd learn things from that and then one day BAM! YOU WOULD WIN EVERYTHING ALWAYS. Just like her mum! EEEEEEEEK! Her mother had, in her fourth year, taken on the head girl and head boy at the same time and TOTALLY WON AND EVERYTHING and Charlotte wanted to be like THAT oh gosh oh gosh she soooo wanted to.
His gaze slipped to the nearly bursting Kettleburn, who looked like she might vibrate out of her seat at any moment. Really, he thought his words might have put the members to sleep. Apparently, it was doing just the opposite? Or was it simply the prospect of getting started and getting all geared up?
A quick glance went along Kettleburn's line of sight to the uniforms. Perhaps it was almost time to let them at it? SPOILER!!: Adi Quote:
Originally Posted by FearlessLeader19 Yes, on the matter of partners, Adi didn't mind whom he went up against. The only persons he had ever dueled were Benny, AJ, Beverly and his guy bestie's ex. He remained silent now as Dakest continued, taking in as much of the information as he could. He eyed his Professor back just as seriously as he himself was being watched.
So much information though. The Hufflepuff tried to make a note of all the 'practice' tips that were being given when Dakest fixed his gaze on Paulina. But gosh! Adi just wanted to get started on things NOW! Standing here was boring though beneficial but he just wanted to do something else. Heh.
And there was another one. With wide eyes filled with that energetic excitement. Really, there had to be something about evening classes and meetings that made the kids so life-like. It was a stark contrast to the morning classes he often held. Speaking of which... "The practice room will be open at all hours, for your convenience. The tournaments will take place most often in the afternoon. If you are not scheduled for a duel, you are welcome to take to the sidelines to watch those duels that are ongoing. Those who are not in the club are welcome to come too. Keep in mind, however, that the slightest noise or movement you make, could cost a dueler their duel. And I'm sure they will be aware enough to remember who and what cost them their standing."
So, quiet. No cheering. No rowdiness. Though, the topic did make him wonder as to if he should put up some charms on the benches. SPOILER!!: Ava Quote:

"Professor Dakest, do we have to pick our opponent at the same level or maybe the same year as us? Because it doesn't sound fair if an older student pick a younger one as his or her opponent."
And also chicken. Seriously, how dare the older students pick the younger ones? Well, not all the younger students were weak, though. It's just... unfair! There's no benefit of the older students picked the younger opponent. And not to mention that it seemed like a form of bully, only it's formal.
Sabel's attention turned to Burton, his eyebrow twitching into an arch. "For the tournament, you will be assigned your dueling partner based on point ranks, and age. It is unlikely that grades will cross too much during the tournament." A breath left him. "The practice room is another story. A member may challenge a student in their grade, or one grade above or below them. This is to allow a diversity of dueling scenarios and partners, as well as skill levels. Older does not always mean winner. Keep that in mind."
And there was a slight smile to accompany the statement. "That being said, younger students are free to challenge as high up on the age scale as they would like. At the discretion of their own risk, or bravery, that is." SPOILER!!: Davie Quote:
Originally Posted by BanaBatGirl Well this was exciting. Just look at all that equipment they were eventually going to wear! For now, the little Ravenclaw in glasses was busy writing down every last word Dakest had to say. Or as many as he could, anyway. No questions over here, sir!
The scratch-scratch of a quill on a notepad caught Sabel's attention and he found one of the students diligently taking notes. It gave him pause, made him blink. He hadn't thought anyone would record the meeting, but then again, he really should have expected the unexpected. And maybe slowed down a bit. Inserted a few more pauses. Made it a bit easier for the note takers.
But, better late than never, right? And so he took a pause now. SPOILER!!: Paulina Quote:
Originally Posted by Squishy There was a lot of information being thrown their way. Paulina had to admit that the more she listened, the more interested she became. Fighting still made her a little nervous, however.
She wondered who she would be duelling. It would be fun to go against one of her friends, but maybe she'd have fun either way. It was hard to not feel nervous, but she was telling herself that everything would work out great in the end. These were important skills to learn even if she hoped to never need to use them in her day to day life. Auror work wasn't cut out for her and she had no interest in fighting Dark Wizards while traveling abroad.
The pause gave him a moment to take stock of who else was in the room. Faces he had skimmed over or only been able to acknowledge briefly. Now, taking that moment of silence to allow the scribbling pen to catch up, he could consider each one individually. Along with the excitement, there also seemed to be some reservation. These got a longer look of consideration from him.
He was curious to see how they would all do. What techniques they would use. How inventive and creative they would be. SPOILER!!: Benzi Quote:
Originally Posted by fire_faerie It always amazed Benzi how differently his head worked depending on how much he was interested in what was happening. And while Herbology was okay and whatever, if it didn't have that practical side to it he wouldn't have been able to do any of it.
But Defense? Defense came naturally to him. He took notes on the important bits but mainly listened, because he knew that he was so interested in it he'd just remember it all without really trying. It's why he didn't bring a quill and parchment to the meeting today, because he knew that he was going to remember every single word.
Especially the professor's next words, which had Benzi's mind instantly whirl a mile a minute. He raised his eyebrow and nodded slowly. "Yes, Professor." He could take anything but 'you can't take part in this tournament.' There was, of course, no reason possible reasson for Dakest to tell him such a thing but just in case that happened let it be known Benzi would throw a tantrum to make a four year old jealous. Just sayin'.
Sabel's attention returned to Benzi, catching the acknowledgement and the reservation in the boy's expression. It almost got a smile from him. Almost. SPOILER!!: Zeke Quote:

The additional information they received regarding challenges and rules and safety and not losing heads because they were essential for survival and all that jazz, was appreciated, and like a sponge, he soaked it all in.
Every word. Hanging on EVERY word.
With discussions of spell assignments, his brows raised his interest. Learning as they went, he was cool with that. But what he liked the sound of most, was their first duel. No prior spell work, just demonstrating and learning how to think, to move, and to adapt as they went. He liked to think he would be able to hold his own in that regard. But time would tell.
It was the mention of challenges that made him smile though, because he was more than happy to put in the time and the effort to excel at this, and those challenges would be key in doing so. He would be all over it like fire on a phoenix. He was ITCHING to grab his uniform and check it out now, but he exercised his patience and waited for the go-ahead.
And it seemed like the questions were dying out and the excitement was building. As evidenced by Zeke and the other members. Perhaps it was best to let them loose now.
Taking a step back and to the side, away from the unifroms, where he was sure there was about to be a stampede. "Remember, use not only your skills, but your creativity, ingenuity and resourcefulness. Don't stay stagnant and don't try and pull out the playbook. That is one reason I am not demonstrating to you today. I want you to see what you can do, without a template to try and copy."
Tucking his wand back into his holster, Sabel gave the gathered students one more visual sweep. "On that note, you are all dismissed. Please come up and grab a uniform for yourself. There are enough sizes here that each of you should be able to find something. If you have any further questions or concerns, I'll stick around for a bit. The Challenge will be posted at the far end of the hall, which you may begin at any time. The first round of tournament duelers will be posted shortly."[/b]
Was he a bit nervous about kicking this whole thing off? Undoubtedly so. There were so many things that could, are were likely, to go wrong. And yet, so many things that were likely to go right, and wonderfully so. Hopefully, there would be more of the later than the former. ----------------------------------- OOC:[i] Hiya all!!
So dueling club meeting #1 is officially done. However, I'll leave the thread open for the weekend so you can post your kids getting their uniforms and what-not if you would like. If you have questions for Sabel, you can also post them here, otherwise PM me and we will find a location
All permission slips must be in by October 14th. So you've got a few more days here to get them going. The challenge will be up soon, as will the first dueling rounds. As always, if you have questions just ask!
