Background: Jenna is the fifth of five children born to Peter and Maria Hensley. As she was a very quiet and shy child, she did not make a lot of friends at school at first, so whenever she had free time outside of school, most of it was spent reading, playing with the family dog, and occasionally playing with her brothers if they invited her to. Her mother signed her up for a soccer team when she was seven, and though Jenna was really hesitant at first, it did help her come out of her shell a little and helped her make a few friends.

It was also around this time that she occasionally had moments of uncontrolled underage magic, but luckily she and her brothers (who had also shown signs as they were growing up) had their Uncle Samuel to help their parents deal with and understand why this happened. Jenna, like her brothers, was intrigued by the idea that magic was real, so she began to include books on it into her reading habits as well. Their mother was a little unsure about it all but tried to be supportive of her children regardless, but their father never approved of any of it – his disapproval didn’t do much to stop them though, since he was rarely at home anyway. At least, until the time came for David to start going to Hogwarts, then Peter absolutely refused to let him go to Hogwarts. So Uncle Samuel became their tutor once they each reached age 11.

David and Phillip – especially David – continued to pester their dad about it through the years, and finally in 2084, Peter agreed to let them go to a wizarding school. David chose Hogwarts, and Phillip chose Beauxbatons. Jenna, however, wanted to be homeschooled instead, as that was the year she turned 11, and she didn’t feel ready to go to a boarding school at all, let alone a magical one.

It took a couple years before she felt like she wanted to go, and part of it was probably influenced by her brothers always talking about how great it was there whenever they came home for a break. So in 2086 she started her third year at Hogwarts, and though she fell back on her tendency to keep to herself, she did at least join school magazine, “The Quill”, that term, which helped a little. It turned into a very stressful and scary time, however, with the acromantulas that invaded the school.

At first, during the summer, she didn’t want to return to Hogwarts for the next year. Not only had it been dangerous, but she hadn’t done as well on her class grades as she wanted, due to her neglect of her studies in favor of other things like writing for the magazine, and relationship trouble had escalated between her mom and dad all throughout the year. It was perhaps partially because of the stress at home that she eventually decided to return to Hogwarts, though even more hesitant and cautious than she was last year.

She continued to keep to herself once again during the term, feeling overwhelmingly lonely and yet not willing to try to make friends, wishing that she was back at home all through the first half of term. She was relieved when the Christmas break arrived; however, her relief was short-lived, as the trouble between her parents had reached a breaking point by that time, and her mother announced that they were separating.

This felt like the final straw for Jenna, and she closed herself off even more, hiding away in her room most of the time to avoid everyone. Fortunately, her mother caught on to it, and she channeled her all her stress and emotions into helping her youngest daughter.

Jenna did not return to Hogwarts for the majority of the last half of the term. She did return briefly, after a few months when she was starting to feel restless at home, but it wasn’t long before she was feeling extremely overwhelmed again, so she went back home and remained there for the rest of the term.
