It was a wooden crate. Not a wooden thing. Brooklyn could think of plenty of other things that qualified as “things” more than a crate did, and if the professor had actually forgotten the word crate she’d just lost a lot of respect for him. Even more than she had just because he was expecting them to play in the dirt. The dirt was, well, dirty. And it was work. She needed to be reminded of exactly why she bothered coming to Herbology lessons, and listening to certain discussions going on around her definitely weren’t working for that.

Therefore, all she could do was get a crate and do as they’d been instructed. After she’d pulled her gloves on and made absolutely sure she wasn’t going to get dirt under her robes or anywhere else she’d rather not end up covered in dirt. It wasn’t that she minded a little dirt. She was fine with sitting on the ground and things like that when she had to. But that wasn’t intentional. This was absolutely intentional, and therefore she was taking precautions. Once that was done, though, she headed up to get a crate and carefully started scooping soil into it. Pressing it down as much as she thought was necessary and adding more until her crate was about two-thirds full. There. It wasn’t full, but it was still mostly dirt. They could plant something in it if they so chose, but she had a feeling that wasn’t what she’d be expected to do.
