But the brilliant's all you, I promise. It must be contagious." Norah hesitated for a split second before throwing her arms around the head girl for a ginormous squish. She had to know how important this felt, right? She seemed like somebody who'd be able to tell. She just did. With another grin, she half-tucked the flower behind her other ear, then bent over her parchment to record all the notes Professor Myers had put on the board. Was Norah REALLY trying to turn this back on her? No, no. Soph was NOT gonna let that happen. "Nuh uh," she argued very maturely, "it can't be ALL me 'cause here you are, in the flesh, proof that you're as brilliant as they come." Norah even got a SECOND flower from another boy right after Soph gave her one, so that even FURTHER backed up Soph's praise.
"Proud of you," she murmured quietly, squishing the Hufflepuff back in the hug with a genuine smile before returning to her spot. Text Cut: The Stud Quote:

Miss Sophie Brown was like the sun.
And then having her stand near him was pretty much everything. The second year gave her one of his biggest smiles and knocked his elbow against her, gesturing to the flower that he had given her.
A reminder.
He really was going to send her flowers now. Every week. Not on a Thursday, because that was Mama's day. He'd work out the best day for Miss Sophie Brown at another time.
He grunted his disapproval quietly about the compost situation in this class and decided right then that even though he was an overachiever and wanted to get everything right, he was going to let his work be sloppy this time. To make a point. That Professor Myers was the WORST and Miss Sophie Brown had deserved every one of those flowers initially gave to her AND that the flower she had given the Professor was completely undeserved.
AND HE WAS NOT IN LOVE WITH MISS SOPHIE BROWN.
He was 12.
12 year olds didn't fall in love. No. No, he wasn't ready to move on. He wanted to ask as many questions as he could in a lifetimes worth of breaths, and he wanted to ask even more than that, because he was Rooney. But fine. He could let the class move on; only because he wanted to hurry up and get the technicolour dreamcoat out of there. Roo headed over and got two of the crates -- one for him and one for Miss Sophie Brown, before taking them back to their table and setting them down.
Soil. AKA mud. AKA dirt. AKA boring.
But it went into his crate by the handful.
Hahahahaah. These were nice crates?? Was Professor Myers eating his plants and having a moment? As class continued along, Soph couldn't hide her amusement at Myers' spiel. He was... well, he wasn't very scientific about things and his word choices were a little funny, but he was a downright hoot, wasn't he? Very entertaining, very fun to listen to - Soph supposed that's all that mattered, really, since it was probably a hard job as a professor to keep everyone's attention all the time. At least it seemed Myers was doing a good job of that.
And Rooney's nudge, a reminder of the flower he'd given her, made the seventh year want to wrap the kid up in a hug and never let him go. He needed to quit hogging up all the cute in the world - it was distracting, frankly. But she didn't really want him to stop. He was wonderful and she wanted to keep him forever, and her fond smile said so.
When they were instructed to grab - ahem - a crate, Soph hesitated in the task to let the others go first so she wasn't caught in the rush of people surging forward to grab one all at once. What she hadn't expected was for Rooney to return with two of them and offer one to her, and the Head Girl smiled broadly. "Y'didn't have to do that. But thanks, Roon."
The grateful smile never leaving her lips, Soph went ahead to deposit a decent amount of soil inside her crate. Not too much, not too little, probably - just enough. Roughly.
