Janelle copied down all of information that was written on the board. It seemed like just about anything could be used for compost. She knew that wasn't true, but it sure seemed like it. When her writing was done, Janelle gave the professor her undivided attention.

Now they were going to get to make their own compost. Janelle went up and got a crate. Then she returned to her seat. Setting the crate on the table, she pulled the bucket of soil closer to her. Now she had to get just the right amount of soil to put in her crate. Not too much, not too little. Carefully she scooped up some soil and placed it in her crate. Janelle repeated the process until the crate was about halfway full. That looked right to her, so at that point she stopped.

Janelle looked at the list of compost materials and wondered which ones she would be putting into her crate. Before that could happen though, they'd have to wait for the next set of instructions. And so, she waited.
