Lil' gooz | Sarangel | Junior Dweeb Oooooh name nutrients? It was like he KNEW. Mind reader Myers. That sounded like the real deal. Norah beamed at Professor Myers. "I sure can, professor. Where did she even START? Everybody knew about the water and carbon dioxide stuff, so she could skip over those. "Plants need loads of different nutrients-I think there are 17 chemical ones, maybe 16. Some of those are Nitrogen 'cause cells need those AND because it's used in the chlorophyll they use for photosynthesis." She paused for a moment to remember that time in first year when she'd accidentally called it 'photography.' See that? That was called learning stuff. "Another nutrient is Phosphorous and they need that for photosynthesis too, especially in turning all the energy into energy they can use in their itty bitty plant parts. Then there's potassium and calcium and magnesium 'n all those." The other ones weren't as important anyways, or at least she couldn't remember the specific uses so she could pretend they were less important. "Compost helps plants get all the nutrients they need 'cause the soil doesn't always have them all, so compost has to be made of things that all the organic stuff that plants need for their cells to function right." Because all those nutrients she'd just said were IMPORTANT. "The cool thing is that compost is that it can be made of loads of different natural things, 'cause almost all organisms need some of the same basic stuff to survive, so a lot of things can be helpful in compost. I read that it doesn't even have to be plant waste, and that you can use fish as compost because they have lots of nutrients too, and can help fertilize a plant and make the soil full of good nutrient-y stuff." Had she said too much? She was starting to feel a little bit like Sophie Brown after doing so much talking to answer a question. Sophie Brown was a rad feeling. Was it this exciting every time the head girl knew stuff or was she used to it by now?
