What?
Was he going to get in trouble for being a fox? Because foxes weren't allowed? Well it was not his fault, it was Culloden's fault for giving them the assignment to turn into animals and having fox be an option. Unless it was a trap to see who would break the rules...
IT WAS NOT HIS FAULT. Quote:

"Uh hello?" He stepped out from the staircase area, letting the gargoyle close behind him. Botros' shoes were already switched so he looked down at Flamsteed's crisscrossed feet and grinned. Hehehe.
Oblivious to the glance down at his feet - NOW WAS NOT THE TIME TO CARE ABOUT SUCH THINGS - the astronomer presented his bagged fox to the Headmaster with a triumphant, but anxious, grin. "We have a bit of a security breach, Headmaster," he informed the elderly chap. "In light of how easily we were invaded last term I thought it wise to inform you of how easily this little fox entered the castle and threatened to eat a student's familiar. Perhaps it would be in our best interest, for the safety of our students, to place security measures on the recently discovered secret passageways. Enchantments and increased patrols, perhaps."
He held the net a little closer to the man. Did he SEE those devilish eyes? It had all started with something as small as a spiderweb. JUST SAYING, HEADMASTER!
