As it happened, it was his turn again and the boy quickly made a move; the first one to come to mind as luck would have it. Daxton had won this game. It had actually become apparent to him that he had won the very moment that Blaise Bellaire had made his move and left both adjacent corners open for the taking. Daxton had claimed another corner, meaning the middle square needed to be blocked, which meant that he could then take the remaining corner, which he did now- -meaning he now had two potential lines, only one of which could be blocked. It was a strategic game, where you needed to think a few steps ahead. Not nearly so much as chess, which Daxton quite enjoyed, but strategy all the same. Logic for babies.
But they were moving on to actual Arithmancy now, which was good, at least. Daxton glanced up, then wrote a little message reading 'I win' under the game grid, though it was probably obvious, then paid close attention to what Tanner was saying, looking between the blackboard and his notes and textbook the entire time. When it was time to apply the grid to their own birthdays, he did just that, going over the lines of the appropriate numbers with his pen a few times so they stood out bolder and thicker. Quote:
